We’re delighted to share that 2027 dates for both our Steam Driver Experience and Afternoon Tea Train are on sale from Monday 2nd November! 🎟️

🔥 Steam Driver Experience – Take the controls of a real steam locomotive and feel the power of steam as you drive and fire under expert guidance — our course is a dream come true for any railway enthusiast, and is a one on one experience! You don’t share the driving with anyone else!

🍰 Afternoon Tea – Sit back, relax, and enjoy a delicious traditional afternoon tea in our charming setting — the perfect treat for yourself or a loved one.

🎁 Looking for the perfect present? We also offer Gift Vouchers, redeemable towards both experiences — ideal for birthdays, anniversaries, or Christmas gifts!

We are running Steam trains, and kids go free!*

📆 Saturday 17th: Steam hauled Service with the first departure from Rowsley South at 11:00. Hop onboard and enjoy travel as it used to be. Services will be hauled by S102 ‘Cathryn’

📆 Sunday 18th: Steam hauled Service with the first departure from Rowsley South at 11:00. Hop onboard and enjoy travel as it used to be. Services will be hauled by 2183 ‘Earl David’

Don’t forget, you can travel by train directly from Lincoln, Newark, Nottingham and Derby, where it is then a short walk over the footbridge to our platform at Matlock!

🎟️ Tickets for our standard services are only available on the day from the Booking Office or Ticket inspector on the train. Fares are: Adults/Senior £15 & Kids go free! (*when accompanied by a fare paying adult/senior)

🍽️ Rowsley South Tea Rooms will also be open over the weekend serving a wide range of hot and cold food and drinks.

Rowsley South before opening

This year, the line from Darley Dale to Rowsley South has been open longer than it was closed and 29th March next year, marks 30 years since the station opened.

We have a lot of photos of the clearing of the site and the building of the station but it is worth taking a step back to look at what we have actually achieved. We have a number of photos of the construction of the station. One dated 1996 from the Peak Rail collection, shows the bricks for the construction of the platform on the track of the platform line. There are a number of the platform just before opening one is by Sheila Rayson looking north, another looking south by Tim Oaks includes two volunteers working on the fencing. Can anyone identify who they are?

MATLOCK RAFT EVENT – PARK & RIDE

Following on from the success of our 2025 service!

Leave the stress of parking behind and let the train take the strain.

Travel on our Heritage DMU from Rowsley South Station (DE4 2LF) which has a large free car park, straight into the heart of Matlock, only a 5 minute walk from the River Derwent.

Fares cost £10 per Adult/Senior/unaccompanied Child, with all accompanied children travelling free!

This includes return travel on the Steam Hauled Train, Departing Matlock at 11:40, 13:40 & 15:40.

Alternatively you can upgrade for only £5 more for adults and enjoy unlimited rides on the Steam hauled train.

Every traveller will receive a free mince pie on the return trip*.

*Mince pies subject to availability, whilst stocks last.

Train Times:

Trains depart Rowsley South at 09:30 & 10:15, both will get you into Matlock before the 11:00 start of the race.
