Haslingden 4–0 Morecambe
Haslingden continued their winning momentum with an impressive 4–0 victory over Morecambe, combining quality finishing with determined defending to secure another three points.
Playing their home fixture at Prairie Sports Village, Haslingden faced Morecambe for the first time this season, arriving full of confidence following last week’s convincing win.
The hosts started brightly, creating early chances and putting Morecambe under pressure. Eleanor Watson opened the scoring with an excellent strike from the edge of the box, before further opportunities followed for Emilia Collins and Megan Rodriguez.
Watson then turned provider, delivering a corner which Kerry Reeves finished at the second attempt to double Haslingden’s advantage.
On 30 minutes, Haslingden thought they had added a third. Beth Macdonald’s wayward shot fell to Ivy Caraher, who lobbed the goalkeeper, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside.
At the other end, Haslingden showed plenty of defensive resilience. Rosie Smith impressed against experienced Morecambe opposition, while the central defensive partnership of Reeves and Lydia Singleton made crucial last-ditch challenges to preserve the 2–0 lead heading into half-time.
With a depleted squad, Haslingden had to make further changes at the break. Lilly-Mae Stafford, introduced earlier in the first half, continued to trouble the Morecambe fullbacks and created several promising opportunities.
The third goal came through Macdonald, who broke forward and unleashed a superb left-footed strike from 20 yards, firing over the goalkeeper. Playing in an unfamiliar striker role, Macdonald was unfortunate not to add further goals, with the Morecambe keeper producing some good saves.
An injury to Singleton forced another reshuffle, with attacking midfielder Collins stepping into central defence. She adapted admirably, making important tackles and helping Haslingden withstand Morecambe’s pressure.
The visitors continued to push during the final 15 minutes, but Sahin produced two outstanding one-on-one saves to protect the clean sheet and keep Haslingden firmly in control.
Watson then rounded off the scoring with another excellent finish from outside the box, finding the far corner to complete her brace and seal a deserved 4–0 win.

Manager Sam Dawson said:
“I’m incredibly proud of the girls today. With a depleted squad and players having to step into unfamiliar positions, they showed real resilience and took responsibility for each other. We stuck to the game plan, played with plenty of intensity and were clinical in front of goal. Even when we had to make changes, the girls remained focused and kept working. Four goals and a clean sheet are a brilliant reward for that effort, and it’s another performance we can build on.”
