The Nahe wine region's Weingut Dönnhoff is simply, a German wine icon. A trailblazer for top-quality Nahe Riesling wines in the early 1980s, Dönnhoff remains a leading producer today, known for it superb, single vineyard, Grand Cru Riesling wines.
Weingut Dönnhoff, a family-owned, VDP classified winery dating back some 250 years and located in the village of Oberhausen an der Nahe in the middle part of the Nahe region, is widely regarded as one of the benchmark producers not only of the Nahe wine region, but of all German Riesling. The Nahe wine region may be one of Germany's smallest wine regions, but it produces some of the best German wine, specifically German Riesling. Sandwiched between the Rheingau, Rheinhessen and Mosel wine regions and within easy reach of Frankfurt, the varied soils here and the steep vineyard slopes provide the ideal environment for Riesling to flourish. The superb wines are enough of a reason to visit the Nahe Valley, but if you add into the mix beautiful spa towns, great health and wellness facilities, superb hiking and cycling routes and fabulous scenery, then the Nahe region should be on your list to visit! New Zealand's tiny Waipara (‘Muddy Water’ in Māori) wine region lies just an hour north of Christchurch in North Canterbury, on the South Island. It may be small, but some of its small, family-owned wineries are producing some of the best New Zealand wines - in particular Riesling and Pinot Noir wines.

The coastal suburbs also offer a wonderful destination for hiking, surfing, mountain biking and exploring charming villages and weekend markets. Today we celebrate that universally popular white wine, Sauvignon Blanc. An aromatic, dry white wine known for its high acidity and fresh "green" flavours like grass, gooseberry, and lime. It originated in France and many still associate it mostly with the Loire Valley's crisp, dry Sancerre, but the explosion of New Zealand's more tropical style of Sauvignon Blanc in the 1980s led to its global popularity. Here, on New Zealand's South Island, most Sauvignon Blanc is grown in the Marlborough wine region and it has become New Zealand’s internationally recognised flagship varietal.
Whatever your personal preference, enjoy!

Auckland is New Zealand's largest city and its busiest international gateway, with two impressive harbours, great restaurants, shops and nightlife. Stay here for big-city energy, mixed Asian and Pacific islander culture and make it your base for exploring greater Auckland and its superb wine and food scene! Our firm recommendation is to make time to visit beautiful Waiheke Island, a 40 minute ferry ride from Auckland and home to some of New Zealand’s biggest wine companies, as well as numerous high-quality boutique vineyards. We loved Waiheke Island, for its laid-bak island vibe, stunning beaches and superb wines and wine experiences! Today is National Asparagus Day in the UK, marking the first day of the 2 month long asparagus season here. We love asparagus - in all of its guises - whether the green variety grown here or the white version grown in Germany and Austria, often referred to as ‘White Gold’. The season for white 'Spargel' is a little later - May/June. Whatever your preference - enjoy it and read up about our wine recommendations for this wonderful seasonal vegetable! https://www.winekeller.com/blog/wine-pairing-with-asparagus
