Jeremy Rogers Ltd has been in business since 1961 when Jeremy started building boats in his back yard in his home town of Lymington. Within 10 years Jeremy's Contessa brand became one of the most successful names in the yachting world and one of the largest boat manufacturers in Britain. Production included Contessas ranging in s

ize from the traditional 26 to the Doug Peterson designed grand prix 35s, 39s and 43s, many of which were exported to a worldwide market. The most popular of all the Contessas was undoubtedly the Contessa 32, Fastnet 1979 survivor and the small blue water cruiser of choice for countless adventurous short handed and single handed sailors since then. Today, a limited number of these much-loved classics are built to order adding to the more than 650 already sailing all over the world. Contessa refurbishments are another speciality of the yard in Lymington along with repair and refurbishment of all boats. Jeremy Rogers' company has long been involved in industrial moulding and today includes in it's manufacturing profile the Atlas Carbon davit range and other bespoke carbon fibre products like passarelles and carbon lifting beams.

Who was onboard this Contessa 32?! ⛵

💛 Clue: It’s a family affair…

The Rogers family is an iconic name within the sailing community, having built — and still family-run today — the prestigious Jeremy Rogers Boat Yard renowned for producing the stunning Contessa 32.

Here at Sanders, another family-run business with the same values of craftsmanship, quality and striving to deliver beautiful products, we’re proud to see our sails and covers adorning so many of the Contessa fleet.

So, it was a real honour to sit down and chat with Dr Ben Rogers about his fantastic winning year aboard his beautiful Contessa 32, Solan Goose, at the Taittinger Regatta and Cowes Week, along with his connection for choosing Sanders as his sailmaker.

For Ben, winning is amazing — but the icing on the cake is having his family as crew onboard.

“We are a very close family and all love our sailing and this year on Solan Goose really was a tribute to them and all they have achieved and the legacy they have left us. Jeremy and my father’s two big things were sailing and family.”

Today is a very exciting day in the yard as we break Hull No. 28, our newest Contessa 32, out of the mould.

It’s a moment not to miss, so her lovely new owner Mark travelled up from Cornwall to be here to see it.

Mark had always dreamed of owning a classic English sailing boat, but for years hadn’t realised the Contessa 32 was still being built. Then, after popping into the Jeremy Rogers yard for a chat one day, things began to fall into place.

For our team, it makes this stage of the build even more special knowing we’re helping bring a long-held dream of Mark’s to life.

From the Solent to the Azores, Gigi has some big miles ahead.

This season, Contessa 32 Gigi has been back on the Solent, with owner Eddie using the summer to get plenty of time on the water, fine-tune the boat and build towards some much bigger offshore plans. Before all of this, Gigi spent some time with us here at the yard for a substantial set of work, and with a new set of racing sails from Sanders Sails, she has since taken on the Round the Island Race and Cowes Week, with the Contessa 32 Nationals still to come in September.

Then, attention turns to 2027. Eddie is already entered in the AZAB, racing one-way to the Azores before hopefully continuing on to the Canaries and then completing an Atlantic crossing in winter 2027.

Gigi already has plenty of history behind her too, including appearing in the writing of sailor and author John Kretschmer, whose Cape Horn to Starboard still has a permanent place on board. Judging by what Eddie has planned, there are plenty more stories still to come.

Deck moulding out, hull moulds in!

Here’s the latest from our new-build Contessa 32 Hull No.28:

With the moulds prepared and gel-coated, the team have now skin-coated both halves ready for the main laminate to begin.

The recent heat has made this stage particularly challenging, with higher temperatures curing the resin faster, careful timing has been essential. These first stages are some of the most important in the entire build, as they form the foundation of the hull’s final finish, so every detail needs to be just right.

Our team have done a fantastic job to make sure this step is exactly how it needs to be and we’re all excited for another big jump towards seeing our newest Contessa 32 take shape. ⛵️

More than 50 years after his first sail on a Contessa 32, David Barrie is still just as pleased to be on board one.

He recalls heading down the Needles Channel with Jeremy Rogers and immediately realising there was something special about this boat.

David later went on to part-own, a Contessa 32 himself, sailing Alcyone to the Azores and back in 1981.

Now, after a three-day cruise in the Solent aboard the well-travelled Assent, it seems the feeling hasn’t changed.

“It’s lovely to be back in Lymington and on board a Contessa 32.”

It’s been a little while since our last update on Longbow II, and she’s looking rather different since you last saw her…

After months of work in the yard, this beautiful 42ft wooden yacht was launched last Tuesday.

Stuart talks us through some of the work he and the team have carried out over the past few months, from the larger jobs to the finishing touches that have brought everything together.

It was fantastic to see Longbow II back in the water with her owner, followed by a sail over to Poole. ⛵️

A Cowes Week for the history books ⛵️

The bicentenary of Cowes Week brought seven days of incredibly close racing, a memorable Contessa 32 fleet sail and plenty of fun ashore as we celebrated 50 years of the Contessa 32 having its own class start.

A huge well done to all of the Contessa crews who raced throughout the week and fought to the finish line.

There were some fantastic results too, with Andy Maskell and the crew of Contessa 33 High Spirit becoming the inaugural winners of the Bicentennial Gold Cup, alongside Ben Rogers and the crew of Solan Goose, who took the Contessa 32 class title and won Black Group overall.

After seven days of racing at Cowes Week, Solan Goose has not only claimed the Contessa 32 Class trophy, but also the overall Black Group title. 🏆

With some races decided by just a handful of seconds, it has been an incredible week of close competition, so a huge congratulations to every team that took to the start line and made it such a memorable regatta.

And before anyone points it out… yes, it was the 50th anniversary of the Contessa 32 having its own class start, not the 60th. We’ll forgive the extra decade, a long week of racing and the celebrations that followed apparently added a few years. 😉

Enjoy a few words from the winning crew at the end of a fantastic Cowes Week!
