Dean Forest Locomotive Group The Official Dean Forest Locomotive Preservation Group's page. A registered charity dedicated to the restoration and operation of ex GWR 5541, 9681 and 9682.

The Official Dean Forest Locomotive Group (DFLG) page. We are a charity dedicated to the restoration and operation of ex Great Western Railway prairie tank No. 5541 and ex British Railway built pannier tank engines No.9681 and No.9682, together with rolling stock owned by the trust. Currently 5541 is operational at our base on The Dean Forest Railway, and 9681 is undergoing its most thorough overh

aul since the engines last overhaul in BR service. The trust is actively adding to its collection of rolling stock with a desire to one day form a complete GWR coach set for use on the DFR, along with a freight train of superior quality.

It's been a while since we've done an update on 9682 so we apologise for that. The team, over the summer, has finished riveting up the bunker and put on a coat of primer. The bunker furniture such as the lamp irons and hand rails will be put back on soon.

9682 Update-Big news, we've just taken delivery of 9682's new cylinder block. This is a big milestone for the project. The two halves of the cylinder block will be left to relax for quite some time before they're machined.

5541 has now officially been withdrawn from traffic after a very busy 10 year ticket. The DFLG are very proud of our flagship locos sterling efforts.

We will in due course undertake its full restoration to running order. However the restoration of 9682 will be progressed before any work is commenced on the prairie.

The Team have been back bunker building on 9682. Plenty more holes to drill and bits to make before we can rivet it all together. There has also been progress on the manufacture of new parts for the sander mechanism. And parts for the Locomotive's Clack valves. Just a small selection of what the team has been up to.

Progress Update 9682
The Engineering Team has been busy drilling the new bunker and cab platework. The new plates and angles have been bolted up ready for riveting at a later date. Over the next few weeks we will carry on fitting and drilling the rest of the bunker plates. In the background, work is ongoing with missing part sourcing and machining. Thanks for all your support!
