Use your day to explore all that Durham has to offer. This city is the jewel in the crown of an extraordinary county and a wonderful place to explore, with ancient winding streets packed with history. Maybe take a relaxing river cruise, or if you fancy a bit of retail therapy then why not visit Durham Market, which is home to over 40 independent traders.

After breakfast we will nip to Barnard Castle, a beautiful market town which takes its name from the castle the town is centred around. Wednesday is market day. Grab a bargain or take a walk along the beautiful streets filled with independent stores. This afternoon we visit The Bowes Museum, a spectacular chateau set in stunning ornate gardens and parkland and home to the exquisite Silver Swan.

Today we visit Beamish Open Air Museum, telling a story of everyday life in the North of England. A vivid recreation of life in the north during the early 1800s and 1900s. Explore the Colliery village, Edwardian town, Home Farm, Pockerly Manor and the Railway Station. 2024 saw a new area developed which includes council houses, a bowling green, Police office, a 1950s cinema and vintage toy shop.
