The impact of the government shutdown on travel is growing day by day and with the holidays approaching it is going to get even worse. Officials warn that if the shutdown continues into Thanksgiving and Christmas, we should expect longer lines at security and slower screening process; increased likelihood of flight delays, ground holds, or cancellations; and longer customer service response times....
HOWEVER, as someone who refuses to be "grounded" this is what I suggest:
1. Most importantly, start your journey with a Bloody Mary before you even leave for the airport
2. Make sure to download a good podcast or playlist to keep you in your Zen and drown out the stress around you
3. Seriously though - Know your rights - if the airline's rebooking policy isn't favorable this might be the time to bite the bullet and buy that dreaded travel insurance. I would rarely recommend it but unless the staffing levels increase, this is really the time to consider it.

Last month, we were lucky enough to be invited to the ABBA Voyage show in London. It is a one-of-a-kind show that you have to see to believe! I was blown away by it!!
Now, if you know my British husband, you’ll know he doesn’t do “Fancy Dress”… but this time, the sounds of disco worked their magic. He played along, and we both dove headfirst into the sparkle. I'm loving this new travel fashion trend: Compression Socks! I just saw them all over the San Diego airport. Even the 20-somethings are rocking them. I think we all know the benefits; improved circulation, reduced swelling, lower risk of DVT, decreased leg fatigue, so we can hit ground running with more energy. And NO ONE wants those chubby ankles when they land, so if we're all going to do it, let's at least be cute about it! Let's please not wear our grandma's orthopedic socks. Golden Hour isn't just about the light! It's also about the vibe. If you wait until sunset to hit the major attractions, you won't have to fight crowds of elbows and photobombs for a memorable shot. Show up later when you will find softer skies, colors pop, and there are no harsh shadows or squinty eyes.
I definitely do NOT have any photographic talent, but I love to capture memories. So, the next time you're tempted to rush out mid-day for the sites, DON'T. Instead, slow down, sip something local and go off the beaten path until later in the day.
