£40 for 13 minutes of total drop-off time. That is what I had to pay today across Birmingham and East Midlands airports for five drops. It is an absolute rip-off.
The airports defend these hikes by hiding behind "green" environmental policies. But if it’s about the environment, their logic makes zero sense. Taxis are part of the public transport network. If the goal is to encourage shared transport and reduce empty cars on the road, drivers should be given a daily cap or a heavy discount, not hit with a full charge multiple times a day. Furthermore, why aren't electric vehicles given free access?
The Business Travel Association recently called on the Competition and Markets Authority to investigate these exact fees, proposing a daily payment cap for taxis and discounts for EVs. My experience today proves exactly why that investigation needs to happen right now. The government and consumer watchdogs need to step in and stop airports using the environment as an excuse to print money.

To all customers. If you have already booked a east Midlands with me then I will keep the price the same.
Unfortunately, due to the ongoing fuel crisis, 69p a litre more than in March and now the pure greed of the airport, who thinks it is acceptable to raise their drop off by 60% to £8 for 10 minutes, my prices will have to raise to a minimum £40.
This is purely going towards covering operating costs and in no way makes me anymore profit in my pocket.
I'm sorry but I cannot hold back the prices any longer and fully understand if you wish to shop around.
Of course, should you decide to keep using me, I will of course give you the 100% customers service which you have been accustomed to
