Trust works both ways.

A customer came to us looking for a 20ft used shipping container for delivery around East London.

No problem at all. We quoted the customer, followed up a few days later, they came back wanting to proceed, filled out the order form, received their invoice within 24 hours and made payment.

Then the questions started.

One of the questions was whether they could have exact photos of the used container before delivery.

With used shipping containers, this is not always as simple as people think. Units are often stacked in busy depots, sometimes in large quantities, and getting one exact container pulled out for photos is not always realistic.

Then came the question: “How can I trust you if you have not sent me a photo?”

At that point, the honest answer is that trust should be sorted before payment, not after.

We refunded the customer, because that is how we operate, but the lesson is simple: if you are buying anything online and you are unsure, ask your questions before sending the money.

Shipping container prices make absolutely no sense… until you understand how the industry works.

A 20ft new one-trip shipping container can often be bought for around £1,800 to £2,000 plus VAT and delivery, depending on stock, location and specification.

A 40ft high cube gives you double the length and extra internal height, but it is not usually double the price.

Then you have 10ft containers, which are smaller, but often cost more per foot because they are less common and may need to be specially manufactured or cut down from larger units.

That is why container pricing can feel backwards at first.

The price is not just based on size. It is affected by availability, location, condition, demand, shipping use, depot stock and whether the container is new, used, high cube, standard, refrigerated or modified.

This delivery needed proper planning before the container even came off the lorry. The access was tight, the site was awkward, and the driver knew exactly what needed to be done before making the move.

As the saying goes, if you fail to prepare, prepare to fail.
