A powerful moment in Warsaw, standing before the Warsaw Uprising Monument.

This moving memorial honours those who fought during the 1944 uprising and represents the courage, sacrifice and resilience of the Polish people.

Some places are beautiful because of what they show. Others are powerful because of what they make you feel.

I always thought amber was a stone, but I discovered it is actually ancient tree resin preserved over millions of years.

Poland is famous for its amber, especially along the Baltic coast, where this golden material has been collected and crafted into beautiful jewellery for generations. Amber has also been used traditionally in folk remedies and as teething jewellery for babies.

One traditional way to test amber is to place it in salty water—genuine amber can float, while many imitations sink. Learning the stories behind the places I visit makes travelling even more fascinating.

We spent the afternoon wandering through Warsaw Old Town, and there was so much to see, learn and taste along the way.

From the beautiful architecture and historic castle walls to quirky traditional restaurants serving Polish favourites, every corner had something different to discover. We visited the Marie Curie Museum, learned more about Poland’s famous amber at the Amber Museum and took time to enjoy some traditional food along the way.

Warsaw Old Town is the perfect place to combine history, culture, beautiful scenery and delicious flavours—all within one unforgettable afternoon.

Warsaw Old Town after dark is full of charm, character and atmosphere.

Beautiful architecture, glowing streets, lively squares and delicious Polish food made this evening one to remember. There is something so special about exploring a historic city when the lights come on.

On my five-hour stopover in Warsaw while travelling home from Gdańsk, my first stop was Holy Cross Church, where Chopin’s heart rests inside one of the church’s pillars.

After Chopin died in Paris, his sister Ludwika secretly carried his heart back to Poland, reportedly concealed beneath her clothing and smuggled across the border into Warsaw. It was later placed inside one of the church’s pillars, allowing a part of Chopin to return to his beloved homeland.

I wanted to pay homage, in my own way, to one of the greatest composers of all time before continuing my journey home. A short visit, but a deeply meaningful moment in Warsaw.
