One of Elstree’s well-known characters & local pilot Tony Yarnold sadly passed away in January. For some of you this will be the first you may have heard of this, and his family are keen for any of you that knew Tony to celebrate his life with them on 23rd March between 1200-1500 in Ealing.

This landmark British War film, shot at Elstree Film Studios, tells the extraordinary story of the legendary 617 Squadron during their daring raid on the Ruhr Dams during the Second World War in thrilling scenes which later inspired the Death Star run in the first Star Wars film.

To honour 70 years since the film's release, this screening will take place in a truly fitting venue, an authentic World War II aircraft hangar at Elstree Aerodrome, bringing audiences closer to the spirit of the story and the history it represents.

As part of Elstree Studios' centenary celebrations, this event is both a tribute to the bravery of the real-life air crew and a celebration of Elstree's enduring contribution to British cinema.

Starting tomorrow, the cafe will be opening until 7.30pm every Thursday and Friday in June, serving a delicious selection of pizzas, antipasti and chef’s specials, as well as the full drinks and desserts menu.

Our good friends at Helicentre Aviation who carry out national pipeline surveys often (bi-weekly) fly in and around the Elstree ATZ. Regulars will be famailiar with these helicopters but visitors may not. Please see the attached document which explains their work and what to consider if/when you hear them on Elstree's frequency.
