🌿 Gannan: A Hidden Tibetan Wonderland 🌄

Welcome to Gannan, a land where Tibetan culture flourishes beyond Tibet itself. Rolling grasslands, golden-roofed monasteries, mist-covered mountains, and herds of yaks paint a picture of serenity and devotion.

💫 A Story: The Hermit of Labrang Monastery
Many years ago, in the grand Labrang Monastery (拉卜楞寺), a monk known as Tenzin chose a life of solitude. Instead of staying within the monastery, he built a small retreat in the mountains, where he spent decades meditating and chanting. Locals often saw him walking barefoot through the snow, whispering prayers for the world’s well-being.

One harsh winter, a young shepherd lost his way in a snowstorm. As the cold drained his strength, he saw a faint light flickering on the mountain. Guided by the light, he found Tenzin’s small retreat, where the monk took him in, offering warm yak butter tea and a thick robe. The boy survived the storm, and ever since, villagers say the light from the hermit's home never fades—it is the glow of compassion, guiding lost souls home.

“In the presence of greatness: the Leshan Giant Buddha 🧘‍♂🌄
Standing over 71 meters (233 feet) tall, carved into the cliffs where the Minjiang, Dadu, and Qingyi rivers meet, the Leshan Giant Buddha has gazed peacefully over the confluence for more than a thousand years. 🙏✨
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this remarkable statue was built during the Tang Dynasty to calm the turbulent waters below. The tranquil expression on the Buddha‘s face reflects the serenity of the surrounding landscape and the timelessness of this incredible piece of human devotion and craftsmanship.
