Forget about the crazy medical procedures… For a longer, more fulfilling life, drop everything and get together with some well read women. It really is that simple.

Studies show that readers have less anxiety and improve sleep quality! Studies also show that strong female friendships are the key to long term happiness.

We are just here going along with the science! Hope you can join a retreat soon this year.

Lots of variety in my recommended books from April. I’ve crossed a few genres and generally had a good time, but also went off the deep end with a few choice selections.

Recommended:
Non-Fiction: Materscence 4 🌟
Fiction: Wild Dark Shore 4.25 🌟
Dark Romance: Bad Bishop 4.25 🌟
Science Fiction: Project Hail Mary 5 🌟

I finished another 4 that were so-so, and I also have about 4 books on the go which is very unlike me…but I’m currently the queen of mood reading. Here’s to winging it a bit more in May as well!

Anyone else mix their genres so drastically?

A new treat for our summertime guests as we are working with illustrator to celebrate her debut book, ‘Locals’. This covers 60 amazing pubs in London and showcases Lydia’s sketch’s of their exterior, but also provides stories and histories of each individual pub.

Lydia is on a mission to draw all 3,500 pubs in London, and will be joining us to sketch the local pub, The Old Swan, and provide some instruction and tips for our guests to create our own art of the local Cotswolds village, Minster Lovell. .minstermill

We hope you can join us for this mixture of storytelling and art in 3 months time. Drop me a DM for room availability.

Pleased to announce we have the perfect new book to match our Cotswolds setting this July. will be joining us in the Monday to talk through her new thriller ‘The Last Time I Saw Her Alive’

The story jumps between 2 timelines and 2 deaths - with secrets and memories in a tangled web. It’s a seductive look at the bohemian in a picturesque Cotswolds setting and perfect for reading with a Pimms in hand.

We still have a few rooms left in July and hope you can join us then to meet Kate and read her new book which is out 30th July!

Our retreats are designed for who a wide variety of people. Because we host at boutique hotels there are a lot of options presented to our guests… to help make the time away a unique experience for each person.

We host about 15-20 women and it’s a mixture of individuals travelling solo (about 75%) and the rest usually attending with a friend or family member in our shared room options.

You can be as social or reclusive as you want… join all our activities or hide away in your room and read or nap.
We always offer a wellness activity with walking, Pilates or Yoga on offer.

And food is a big part of the experience with handpicked lunches, dinner and wines available. Breakfast is left for you to enjoy at your own time.

The ladies are also a wide mixture of avid readers (+25 books a year) and also those looking for the time and opportunity to sit still and pick up a book for the first time all year.

Any of this sound like you? Drop me a line and we can talk about which trip is right for your needs.

We hosted our 3rd reading retreat in March with lots of book chats and new books added to the TBR. After this weekend, I did manage to read another 8 books across quite a wide spectrum.

My most enjoyed books of March were audio, and I absolutely loved both 📕Moderation and 📕Broken Country. Recommend wholeheartedly.

I also dove into the Liz Tomforde ‘Windy City’ series… and while I gave the first one a skip (for length) I was comfortably entertained with her sports romance and read 3 in quick succession - even if they start to feel a bit formulaic there…I recommend if you need a bit of comfort and 🌶️🌶️

My darker romance reads were a bit all over the place, but I do rate the Never Keep series for anyone looking for proper enemies to lovers and solid female friendships. All books there are above 4⭐+

Anyone else read as crazy a mash up this past month?

Join us in July to meet debut novelist, and dive into her sumptuous historical fiction exploring 19th century France and a hint of magical realism - Minha is born with an extraordinary sense of taste that lands her a role working as a poison taster for a grand estate in France that’s filled with dark intrigue and sinister motivations.

With writing that delights the senses- the story explores race, living up to potential and finding your own way in the face of adversity.

Retreat guests will enjoy our own tasting feast after our author conversation with Catherine on Sunday evening. Please book now as we still have a few rooms available to reserve.

Our first weekend adventure a bit further North has just dropped!

Join us in the stunning and quaint town of Malton in North Yorkshire, 6-8 November for our first town escape, but also close enough to those famous moors that we will certainly be taking some walks.

The is a converted coaching inn on the edge of town with views over the river and surround countryside. We plan to explore BOTH the towns well-known food scene, but also disappear into our private reading lounge to escape with our books.

If you are on the email list you will have already seen booking details, I recommend jumping on this one quickly as it’s booking fast! Northern ladies - cannot wait to meet to all!

It’s a grand time to post about mothers and women in all their brilliance. Especially in the current climate when our rights and voices are being diminished…it’s important to honour the ones that raised us, and will be supporting the future generations of readers and leaders.

Here is a collection of books I have read or own that I recommend for praising motherhood in all its messy, beautiful and sometimes unacknowledged glory. Moms are not perfect, but dang they are impressive.

Have I missed any other obvious books? Let me know in the comments.

*important to note I am currently 7 months pregnant so this is also a pep talk to myself! Shout out to my VIP

It’s the perfect time to announce our Sunday author, to the New Forest retreat in March 2026!

Following her Women’s Prize long listed debut, Wandering Souls, back in 2023 - we will be exploring her latest work, 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬, which covers ambition, space and legacy in a beautiful and warm story. I am excited for everyone to pick this up - either as a guest at our retreat or at your local bookshop in March.

If you want to meet Cecile and get early access to this book - drop me a DM as we still have 2 rooms left!
