The Customer: The Merchant of Chinese Fine Wines Ltd

China is the eighth largest producer of wine in the world by volume and historically local wine producers have understandably focused on their huge domestic market. This has now begun to change with The Merchant of Chinese Fine Wines Ltd being founded in May 2013 by Ryan Burroughs and He Xiao Lei. Ryan has developed a portfolio of Chinese fine wines that can compete with wines from other countries in real terms, but he has limited his range to wines he’d personally tasted and felt he could defend with pleasure.

Where it all began…

Back in April 2013, Ryan contacted Uniserve Drinks Logistics (UDL) to advise him on the most cost effective way he could bring his wines to the UK market. Dave Po***ck, UDL’s Head of Business Development provided that advice and support which enabled Ryan to place his first order for delivery to the UK ready for the London Wine Fair where he began promoting his wines. UDL arranged the shipment from Tianjin with a selection of wines from Grace Vineyard located around 500km south west of Beijing for delivery to Belfast, including the payment of duty and taxes.

Uniserve Drinks Logistics to the rescue.

In April 2014 Ryan secured a listing at the Shangri-La Hotel at the Shard in London that ordered two lines from Grace Vineyard wines, Chairman Reserve 2010 and Tasya Reserve Chardonnay 2010. On the back of the help and support UDL has provided to get the wines from China to the UK. We were the only people Ryan could trust to make the final delivery to the Shard. The problem was that the replenishment order of the Tasya Reserve Chardonnay from China could not be bottled in time to arrive before the official launch of the hotel on 6th May. Luckily Ryan had a few cases at his local warehouse in Belfast which were hurriedly packed and dispatched to Uniserve Tilbury. UDL arranged the picking, packing and booking to the hotel within 24 hours. The delivery was made bang on time at 9am on Saturday 6th May for the grand opening later that day.

UDL will now hold a stock of wines so that The Shangri-La Hotel can receive their Chinese wine within 24 hours of placing an order.
