🐘 Happy World Elephant Day! 🐘

🐘 Did you know that elephants can remember faces, places and other elephants for years?

And their pregnancies last around 22 months. Yes, almost two years. 😮

There’s a reason we find elephants so fascinating. They are highly intelligent, deeply social animals, and they form strong bonds within their herds.

Sharing this beautiful video from The Red Road Foundation to appreciate these incredible animals. 🤍

Loving wildlife also means thinking about how we choose to experience it when we travel.

Instead of seeing animals as a tourist attraction, there are places where you can simply meet them in their natural environment-from a respectful distance, without disturbing their lives.

One beautiful example is Gal Oya Lodge in Sri Lanka, where boat safaris in Gal Oya National Park offer the chance to see wild Sri Lankan elephants in their natural habitat. 😍
And if you’re lucky, you might even see them swimming between the islands. 🐘🌿

The best wildlife experience is not getting closer.

👞 The Shoes on the Danube.

At first, they look like ordinary shoes.
But they tell one of Budapest’s darkest stories. 🕯️

In 1944 and 1945, Jewish people in Budapest were brutally persecuted.

Many were taken to the banks of the Danube.

They were forced to take off their shoes.
Then they were shot.
Their bodies fell into the river. 🌊

Today, 60 pairs of iron shoes stand along the riverbank.

They are a memorial.

A reminder of the people who never made it home.
And a reminder of where hatred can lead. 🕊️
Then there is Budapest. 🇭🇺

A city divided by the Danube.

Buda is on the hills.
Pest stretches across the flat side.

The two are connected by beautiful bridges. 🌉

Budapest is full of history.

In its buildings.
In its streets.
In its bridges.

And in the places that still carry painful memories.

It is a city of beauty and contrasts.

A city that remembers.
