🌊🌈 proudly joins the global community in celebrating the in Maritime 2026.

This year’s theme, “From Policy to Practice: Advancing for Maritime Excellence”, reminds us of a fundamental truth: a stronger and more resilient maritime industry is built when , , and professional development are equally accessible to all.

🪢 continue to make invaluable contributions across every area of our sector — from , , and to legal, technical, and operational roles. Yet, despite this impact, their representation across the industry remains disproportionately low. The question we must ask ourselves is clear: how much is the global maritime industry losing by failing to fully recognize, support, and advance women’s talent and expertise?

These principles must go beyond words. They must translate into concrete and measurable action from every maritime stakeholder through equal opportunities, professional development, , and the promotion of a more diverse and representative maritime .

⚓ At FONASBA, we remain fully committed to strengthening women’s representation and leadership throughout our global network. From our Ambassador Hilde Bruggeman, to Berit Blomqvist and Sari Turkkila, who will host our upcoming Midsummer Seminar; from Beatriz Orujo Cotoner, who recently represented our community at the Summit, to Akanksha Batura Pai, whose dedication and positive influence continue to inspire; from Barbara Carabetti and Virginia Madlang Awa, who contribute tirelessly across numerous committees in their countries and beyond, while embodying entrepreneurial leadership, to our General Manager Eleonora Modde, whose steady guidance keeps our Federation moving forward during these dynamic times, with the valued support of Gertrude Ohene Asienim.

These, and many other remarkable women, make FONASBA proud and reflect the progress our industry is capable of achieving.

🌏 Join us in championing a maritime industry where talent, commitment, and excellence define success — never gender.

Received from our colleagues at SAASOA in South Africa, we are pleased to share this regional update:

🪢 The Car Terminal in recorded an annual handling record of almost 696,000 fully built vehicle units during the financial year ending 31 March 2026, highlighting once again the industry’s remarkable capacity to adapt to changing dynamics.

📈 This performance is a significant operational indicator, demonstrating both the efficiency of the itself and the ability of shipping and stakeholders to respond quickly to changing .

However, such developments should be assessed with caution and within their broader international context. Exceptional growth in one location is often linked not only to local operational excellence, but also to , dislocation and affecting other parts of the transport chain — dynamics that have become increasingly evident in recent months.

For this reason, Durban’s figures should be seen not just as a success story, but also as a sign of the ongoing volatility in global trade and the shipping industry’s need to adapt to broader geopolitical and pressures.

⚓ This is precisely why resilient infrastructure, effective services and close coordination among all maritime stakeholders remain essential. will continue to monitor these evolving patterns together with its member associations, including those active across the Southern African region such as SAASOA.
