The importance of face-to-face customer visits…

Last week, I visited one of our long-standing customers in Devon.

Over the years, I’ve built a great relationship with our contact there, and visits like this are a good reminder of why meeting customers face to face still matters!

You get the chance to understand more about their business, hear what’s going on from their side and, importantly, find out if there’s anything we could be doing better.

This visit also came with some great feedback for our Road Freight team - A special mention for Kaelan, Kelly and Megan, who were praised for the support they give with urgent vehicle requests. It was brilliant to hear how happy the customer is with the service they receive from the team. 🐆

As a director, receiving that kind of feedback is always great. Being able to take it back to the office and share it with the people who made it happen is even better.

Good customer relationships are built over time, and sometimes the best way to strengthen them is simply to sit down and have a conversation.📦

4 years at JAG UFS. Here’s why Conor stays.

Conor Fitzmaurice has been part of the JAG UFS team for four years and is our Fulfilment Manager.

For Conor, it’s the people and the atmosphere that have kept him here.

The team in Camberley, the way people are treated and the overall working environment all play a big part in why he still enjoys coming into work every day. 🐆

We asked Conor why he’s stayed with JAG UFS, and here’s what he had to say:

“I’ve been here for as long as I have mainly because of the sort of work atmosphere that we’ve got, it makes you want to come into work every day. 📦

The people we work for at JAG are brilliant to all of their employees. They really look after the staff and make it a great place to work.”

A few new faces have joined the JAG UFS team recently 👋

We’re really pleased to welcome Aimee and Natalie to our Southampton team, and Dylan to our Heathrow team!

Dylan joins us as Air Import Supervisor, bringing plenty of experience across import operations, port health and compliance.

Natalie joins our Import Operations team as Freight Operator, bringing a strong background in shipping and freight forwarding.

Aimee has joined our Southampton team, bringing years of experience across shipping and administration.

It’s always great to see the team growing, and we’re looking forward to seeing what’s ahead for all three of them.

A big congratulations to Kelly on his promotion to Road Freight Supervisor in our Southend office! 🚛👏

Kelly has continued to develop and grow within the Road Freight team and has really stepped into the role. This promotion is a great reflection of that progression and the work he’s put in.

Sometimes it’s the driver keeping you updated in traffic. Sometimes it’s a team jumping in when customs causes a problem!

At JAG, we don’t want our customers to feel like just another shipment number.

Over time, you get to know the people you work with. Drivers get to know their regular customers, teams understand the businesses they’re supporting and those relationships make a difference when something doesn’t go to plan.

One of our regular customers has built a great relationship with our driver Doug. They’ll message each other on the road, checking ETAs and keeping each other updated on traffic.

And when that same customer had a shipment held by customs, our import team worked to get it cleared and released as quickly as possible.

Once everything was resolved, the customer even sent the import team an Uber Eats voucher as a thank you. It wasn’t expected, but it was a lovely gesture that showed how much they appreciated the way the team handled the situation. 😊

Because good logistics is about more than moving freight.

It’s about being responsive, building relationships and being there when our customers need us. 📦🐆

If you’re sending food from the UK into the EU, is the process the same as bringing it into the UK?

No.

And that’s something businesses can easily overlook.

Food coming into the UK can require an IPAFFS notification and, for certain products, a CHED (which we covered in our last post).

Food going from the UK into the EU involves TRACES and different documentation.

The product might be the same, but the requirements aren’t.

For businesses moving food across borders, knowing which process applies before the shipment moves can prevent unnecessary delays and complications.

It’s a small detail that can have a big impact. 🐆📦
