How to get to the Dolomites 🏔️

With the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina next year and an increasing trend towards 'coolcations', a lot of my clients are asking about the Dolomites at the moment.

Having visited last Summer and earlier this year, I've been scoping out the very best places to stay and the most interesting and unique experiences this wonderful region has to offer.

How to get there?

✈️ By air

Venice Marco Polo Airport is the most common and convenient international airport for accessing the Dolomites (although bear in mind it's still a 2-3 hour drive from Venice to various parts of the Dolomites).

Bolzano Airport is the closest airport to the Dolomites. It is served by and flies from various points in Italy and the rest of Europe. Flights from the UK are from Gatwick and are 2-3 times a week depending on the time of the year.

Other airports to consider are Verona and Innsbruck.

🚝 By Train:

Cortina d'Ampezzo or Bolzano are the main stations but hotels will often offer transfers from local stations

🚗 By Car:

Hire a car for flexibility and the opportunity to explore remote areas or use private transfers if you're going to be exploring by foot.

Are the Dolomites on your list to visit?

They say "a picture is worth a thousand words", but even these snippets from my recent stay at Marbella Club Hotel won't truly show this Mediterranean paradise, an oasis of flora and fauna from around the world and all the superlatives that can be found

It's a place for wellness - as a pilates reformer fan myself, I will always note somewhere that has reformer machines.

It's a place for families - the kids club is more than just a kids club. It's an absolute kids wonderland, complete with a seahorse hotel where the resident seahorses have recently had babies.

It's a place for adults - the new Finca Ana Maria has the most divine adults only pool. Little touches like the chilled gazpacho from tomatoes picked that morning, the sunglasses cleaning and the ice cream cart - I'm usually a beach person, but this pool has my name all over.

It's a place for food and wine, the dining was outstanding, from fine dining through to room service, I made sure to test it all!

Thank you for a truly special stay.

Sometimes in travel, the best memories are from those completely unplanned moments, like this pod of 50 dolphins who joined us en route to lunch on a desert island. An absolute dream day all round.

Missed my March roundup because I was on safari, so here are March and April together.

With Instagram being the highlights reel it is, the photos show the highs - but it would be remiss to not talk about the lows and the more challenging times, even if there aren't any photos to go with them.

Behind the scenes, there was re-routing of flights, proposals on hold, and a whole lot of uncertainty. Being there for clients, as a human with a listening ear and empathy for the situation, reminded me that my favorite part of this job isn't the bookings - it's the people and the stories we navigate together.

Many of the enquiries I’ve been working on recently have required a bit more creativity and a deep dive into flight routing before even determining the destination.

As we navigate a complex global landscape and new updates like the EU entry-exit system ahead of summer, having that safe pair of hands to assist you in your travels feels more worth it than ever.

How are your summer plans shaping up? If you’re feeling the 'travel puzzle' lately, send me a DM or email [email protected] and let's chat.

The trips I'm already planning for 2027? They all have one thing in common - they benefit enormously from early planning.

Here's what my clients are securing now:

Safari
I work with lodges in private game reserves for a more intimate wildlife viewing experience with fewer vehicles at sighting. Lodges are often smaller - sometimes with only 5 suites, others with just 3-4 family room options - and naturally these book out months in advance. When you want the best locations, the best guides, and properties that understand the full safari experience, you can't wait until you 'have time to plan'.

Japan
It's not accommodation that's the challenge. It's securing exceptional English-speaking guides who transform your experience from sightseeing to genuine cultural immersion. The best ones have limited availability and book early.
Pro tip: Get off the standard routes. Lesser-known islands such as Kyushu and Shikoku offer equally stunning temples and experiences - with a fraction of the crowds.

Multi-generational trips & Milestone celebrations
When you're co-ordinating multiple family diaries and trying to please everyone from toddlers to grandparents, early planning isn't optional. It's essential for getting the right property, the right dates, and designing something that works for everyone.

If any of these resonate with you, let's start the conversation now - while the best options are still available.

New year, new trips to plan.

If we haven't met yet: I'm Davina, and I design tailor-made travel experiences for travellers who want their trips handled by someone who genuinely cares about getting it right.

No generic itineraries. No settling for "close enough." Just thoughtful, intentional travel planning that fits exactly who you are and what you need.

I work with a limited number of clients from founders to families, all of whom want their precious time away to feel effortless, not stressful.

My process is simple: I learn about you, I confidently curate an itinerary just for you, and I handle every detail so you can simply show up and enjoy.

Whether you're dreaming of safari sunsets, coastal escapes, or mountain retreats, I'd love to help bring your 2026 travels to life.

Send me a DM or email [email protected] and let's start planning something extraordinary.
