I love the chequered floor tiles at Holborn London Underground station.

Chequered tiles are surprisingly quite unusual in tube stations, the only other station I can think of that has them is Hounslow central but there must be more?

18 years ago Wood Lane station opened on the Hammersmith & City Line (just over a year before being joined by the Circle Line), primarily to serve the Westfield shopping centre which opened a couple of weeks later. It is not to be confused with the nearby Central Line 'Wood Lane' which was that line's western terminus between 1908 and 1920 (when it was extended to Ealing Broadway); that station closed in 1947 when it was replaced by today's White City. Nor should today's Wood Lane be confused with the original 1908 White City station on the Hammersmith & City route which was located on the opposite side of Wood Lane and which closed in 1959... that station opened as 'Wood Lane'! Feeling incredibly proud to finally hold my 2027 Tube Mapper Calendar in my hands!

The shipment landed yesterday, so I’m now busy getting calendars out to everyone who has already ordered.

I couldn’t resist matching my T-shirt to one of the gorgeous pastel colours on the cover!
