HATS wins the International Green Apple Environment Award 2025!🏅
We are proud to share that our Net Zero Patient Transport Service has won the Green Apple Environment Award 2025, an international recognition for environmental best practice! This award marks another huge moment for HATS and reflects the years of hard work, determination and belief that have gone into making this service sustainable and net-zero a reality.
What makes this achievement stand out is how it was delivered. Not by headline-grabbing announcements but by teams quietly working behind the scenes to turn a bold idea into a reliable and everyday reality. It is the result of people solving problems in real time, learning on the job and supporting each other through every challenge that came with building something that is first in the NHS and in the UK.
For over three months our patient transport ambulance fleet at the Hillingdon Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (THH) has been running 100% electric vehicle ambulance, delivering 100% zero-emissions patient transfers. This puts us ten years ahead of the NHS 2035 Net Zero Transport target. That progress did not happen overnight. It came from countless hours of planning, engagement, innovation, problem solving and staying focused on the goal.
In recent months HATS operational teams and the THH Trust Clinical Estates and Transport teams worked together tightly to embrace the transformation, ensuring the new EVAs are powered and healthy every day and night. This would not have been possible without our team, who worked closely with their drivers and managed the charging regime for THH patients.
Winning the International Green Apple Environment Award reminds us that meaningful change does not happen through ideas alone. It happens when people work together and commit to making something better. This award belongs to everyone who helped make it happen. Here is to what comes next!🎉🎉
