As the year draws to a close, it can feel as though the pace has never truly slowed, particularly with the demands of our many sites and ongoing responsibilities. However, as we take this well-earned opportunity to rest and reflect, it’s important to recognise just how far we have come together over the past year.

This has been a year marked by continued growth, and it has been a pleasure to welcome many new colleagues across the business. Witnessing our teams strengthen and evolve has been truly inspiring. Beyond our organisational achievements, we can take pride in the positive and meaningful differences we continue to make for our service users and the wider communities we support.

The festive season reminds us of the importance of connection and kindness. We hope you can step away from the day-to-day, recharge and enjoy meaningful moments with family and loved ones.

6th Annual Awards Ceremony: A Night to Remember

On Saturday 6th December, we proudly celebrated our 6th Annual Awards Ceremony and what an incredible evening it was!

A huge thank you to everyone who gave up their Saturday to attend and help make the night so special. It was fantastic to see so many colleagues come together to recognise the hard work and achievements across our teams.

Congratulations to all our winners and nominees! Your commitment and efforts truly deserve to be celebrated! I hope you are all proud and had an amazing evening.

This event is always something special, as it’s the one time of year where so many teams, both in and out of London come together to celebrate success and enjoy each other’s company. The atmosphere and positivity on the night were amazing and a real reflection of the people who make our organisation what it is.

HATS wins the International Green Apple Environment Award 2025!🏅

We are proud to share that our Net Zero Patient Transport Service has won the Green Apple Environment Award 2025, an international recognition for environmental best practice! This award marks another huge moment for HATS and reflects the years of hard work, determination and belief that have gone into making this service sustainable and net-zero a reality.

What makes this achievement stand out is how it was delivered. Not by headline-grabbing announcements but by teams quietly working behind the scenes to turn a bold idea into a reliable and everyday reality. It is the result of people solving problems in real time, learning on the job and supporting each other through every challenge that came with building something that is first in the NHS and in the UK.

For over three months our patient transport ambulance fleet at the Hillingdon Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (THH) has been running 100% electric vehicle ambulance, delivering 100% zero-emissions patient transfers. This puts us ten years ahead of the NHS 2035 Net Zero Transport target. That progress did not happen overnight. It came from countless hours of planning, engagement, innovation, problem solving and staying focused on the goal.

In recent months HATS operational teams and the THH Trust Clinical Estates and Transport teams worked together tightly to embrace the transformation, ensuring the new EVAs are powered and healthy every day and night. This would not have been possible without our team, who worked closely with their drivers and managed the charging regime for THH patients.

Winning the International Green Apple Environment Award reminds us that meaningful change does not happen through ideas alone. It happens when people work together and commit to making something better. This award belongs to everyone who helped make it happen. Here is to what comes next!🎉🎉

HATS proudly celebrated Black History Month with an evening that was both inspiring and unifying. The event brought together colleagues, partners and guests to honour Black excellence and the stories that continue to shape our shared history.

We were privileged to hear from the remarkable Deesha Dyer, whose powerful insights on leadership and empowerment left a lasting impression on everyone in attendance. The evening was expertly hosted and supported by our dedicated team, who ensured the night was filled with energy and connection.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped bring this celebration to life — from those working behind the scenes to all who joined us on the night!

Black History Month reminds us of the ongoing importance of representation and progress. These values remain central to who we are as an organisation.

Celebrating Success: HATS Group Wins the Green Fleet Award!

Last night at the National Sustainability Awards, HATS Group was named the winner of the Green Fleet Award in partnership with Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Hearing our name announced was an unforgettable moment, and one that belongs to every single person in our team.

This award is about so much more than electric vehicles, solar charging and carbon savings. It is about people. Our drivers who embraced new ways of working. Our engineers who built a pioneering fleet. Our colleagues who managed change with care. And our patients, whose journeys are now smoother, quieter and cleaner. Every one of you should be proud of what we have achieved together.

From one electric ambulance in 2021 to a fully electrified, renewable-powered fleet by April 2025, this service now delivers over 8,000 zero-emission journeys each year and removes more than 23 tonnes of CO₂e — all at no extra cost to the NHS. That is remarkable.
To win this award alongside such outstanding organisations is a huge honour. But the greatest pride comes from knowing we have set a new standard for sustainable healthcare transport. We have shown that environmental responsibility and world-class patient care can truly go hand in hand.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. This award is yours. Here is to continuing to lead by example, and to never underestimating what we can achieve when we work together.

HATS came together to celebrate South Asian Heritage Month and what a celebration it was! From vibrant colours and great music to incredible stories and delicious food, the evening was packed with culture, connection and purpose.

This year’s theme, “Roots to Routes,” invited us to reflect on identity, community and the journeys that shape us. Our brilliant speakers brought that message to life in the most powerful way.

A huge thank you to: Amrit Johal and Satinder Bains Champions of inclusive football spaces through their work with the Punjabi Arsenal Supporters Club and Arsenal FC’s EDI Board. Their reflections on representation, racism in sport and belonging were moving and so necessary.

Ashrafia Choudhury - Founder of Beyond Sight Loss, who opened her heart and shared her journey with Stargardt’s disease and the cultural stigma around visual impairment in South Asian communities. Her work is changing lives and building community with care and dignity.

To everyone who supported us for thank you for organising such a meaningful and seamless event. Your passion, creativity and attention to detail made the evening truly special.

I am pleased to share that HATS Group has been shortlisted in two categories at the 2025 National Sustainability Awards!

We are finalists for the Green Fleet Award, in partnership with Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and for the Sustainable Transport Award, acknowledging our contributions to decarbonise non-emergency patient transport and lead the way in healthcare sustainability.

Our shortlisted initiative with Hillingdon Hospital delivered the United Kingdom’s first fully net-zero Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service, achieving over 8,000 zero-emission patient journeys each year. This transformation began with a single electric ambulance in 2021 and reached full electrification of the Hillingdon fleet by April 2025.

The service is powered entirely by renewable energy, using a custom-designed electric vehicle fleet and solar-enabled charging infrastructure. It eliminates more than 23 tonnes of CO₂e annually, enhances patient comfort through smoother, quieter rides, and proves that environmental innovation can go hand-in-hand with outstanding clinical care. Crucially, the project was delivered at no additional cost to the NHS, creating a scalable model for other Trusts.

We are honoured to be recognised alongside outstanding organisations such as DPD UK, Evri, Kuehne & Nagel Government and Defence, Ohme, Sherbet London, Westmorland & Furness Council, and the Northern Lighthouse Board. To be considered in such company is a significant acknowledgement of the work our team has undertaken to push the boundaries of sustainable healthcare logistics.

The winners will be announced on 1 October 2025 at the Awards Gala Dinner, which will take place at the London Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square.
