Did you know that next week is Community Transport Week 2026?

This year's theme is Driving Communities Forward.

And at Westway, we know that community transport is about much more than getting from A to B.

It's about independence, connection and being able to take part in community life - all things that make us feel better and stay healthier in mind body and spirit.

If your curious, our new annual report shows just how many journeys happen across with Westway CT every year. Check it out at our website....westwayct.org.uk

So,we'll be celebrating the people behind them: our drivers, volunteers, staff and everyone who helps keep our community moving.

Every journey is part of something bigger.

A community transport service is only as good as the people who make it happen - FACTS.

Our 2025/26 report recognises our 44 employees and 20 volunteers who keep us moving.

Drivers. Volunteers. Passenger-facing staff. People working behind the scenes. Trustees and everyone who helps make the charity work and, make our borough accessible - its no mean feat๐Ÿ˜Ž

Next week is Community Transport Week, with this year's theme Driving Communities Forward. And if you didn't know that, you should because community transport is more than wheels on a bus - it's freedom, access, independence.

We think that's a pretty good description of what happens at Westway every day.

Because driving communities forward isn't just about driving a vehicle.

It's about helping people stay connected, independent and involved in their communities. So expect some shenanigans from us as we celebrate the amazing work community transport does!

Thank you to everyone who helps make that possible.

numbers tell a story

3,280.
4,850.
17,850.
38,480.

Those numbers might not mean much on their own. But they represent journeys.

3,280 passenger journeys through our Volunteer Car and Flexibus services.
4,850 shopper bus journeys
17,850 Dial-a-Ride journeys.
38,480 Group Transport passenger journeys.

Behind every one is a reason to travel: getting to an appointment, meeting friends, joining a group, going shopping or simply getting out and about.

Our 2025/26 report gives a snapshot of a year in the life. And, the most important number will always be the people those journeys help.

What does a year of community transport in London look like?

It looks like thousands of journeys, wheels moving, conversations had, friends made and independence maintained.

Last week we held our AGM and looked back at another busy year at Westway as we travelled across RBKC and Westminster for people and Local groups.

Our new 2025/26 report brings together the numbers, the services and the people behind those journeys.

Itโ€™s a formal report, but behind every number is a person, a purpose and a reason for getting somewhere.

Take a look at what weโ€™ve achieved together. see link inbio for our website๐ŸšŒ

Silver Sunday may have been yesterday, but its message is worth carrying forward.

This national day celebrates older people and the importance of staying connected, trying new things and being part of our communities.

And it fits perfectly with something we've been thinking about at Westway: ageing well was never just about living longer. It's about staying connected to people, places and the things that make us feel alive.

Sometimes the hardest part isn't wanting to join in. It's getting there.

That's one of the reasons community transport matters. Because getting people from A to B is as much about helping keep friendships, routines, independence and community life within reach as it is about wheels.

So, a belated Happy Silver Sunday from Westway.๐Ÿ’ซ๐ŸšŒ

Ageing well was never just about living longer.

It's about staying connected to the people, places and things that make us feel alive.

Research increasingly links social connection and participation with healthier ageing.

But participation needs access. Sometimes that means having a way to get there when driving is no longer an option, mobility has changed or public transport doesn't quite work.

Our mini buses, in fact our whole ethos is about inclusion and access, we want to help residents in our borough stay part of the place where they live, and that means providing transport that works for them.

Call us if we can help you: 0208 964 4928 - we help individuals and local groups to get to where they want to go๐Ÿ˜Ž

The back of the bus never looked so good!
Our shopper bus and day trips offer more than a chance to pick up a few essentials or a nice day out. They offer independence, change, and company, all of which help fight loneliness and keep us feeling fitter for what life may throw at us.

For some older people, getting out can become harder as mobility changes or driving stops.

Community transport can't create someone's social network.

But it can help them stay connected to it and the place where they live.
Shout out to all the community transport providers across the country - we see you๐Ÿซถ๐ŸšŒ

Thought for the day
What if ageing well is partly about who we age with?

It might be a chat with a familiar face at the shops, a neighbour saying hello, a chat with a driver or a laugh on a day trip.

These moments matter.

Research into ageing increasingly points to the importance of being socially connected and involved in our communities. And as life changes, those connections can become harder to maintain.

Retirement. Bereavement. Giving up driving or changes in mobility can weaken our social links. Having reliable and accessible community transport is one way to maintain your social chain.

And that's where we come in, our minibuses are reliable, accessible and guaranteed to keep you connected when using mainstream transport is a challenge, so if you're over 55 and need extra help, please give us a call, membership is just ยฃ12 a year - 0208 964 4928 - we'll get you there.

Ok, so we know that transport doesn't create someone's social network. But it can help them stay part of it.

When we think about ageing well, it's mainly about staying active, eating well and looking after our health. But there's another important part: People!

Research increasingly shows that our social relationships are closely linked with physical, mental and cognitive health. And a recent study of 7,000 adults aged 50+ found that lower levels of social integration and support were associated with faster physiological ageing.

Ageing well isn't just about adding years to life. It's about staying connected to people, places and everyday life too - something that your local community transport provider can help withโ˜บ

Getting out and about matters. Not just for the things we have to do.

For the things we want to do.

Transport as a vital way for older people to stay part of their local communities and access the places and people that matter to them.

That's why we see community transport as more than a journey from A to B.

It's about helping people stay connected to everyday life. If we can help you or someone you know please get in touch with our friendly team. You can call us on: 0208 964 4928.
