Class 507 Preservation Society

Class 507 Preservation Society Giving 507001 a well-earned retirement home after 46 years of service to the people of Merseyside.

02/09/2026

A milestone in electric railway preservation was achieved on 1st September by the Class 507 Preservation Society – the first conversion of a preserved electric multiple unit to battery operation in Britain. 507001 successfully ran under its own power, without a third rail, in tests at Alstom’s Litchurch Lane works in Derby, paving the way for future operation on a heritage railway.

What does the 507 Hustle beep sound like 👂

We are no strangers to the infamous beep as a guard would close the doors for 46 years across Merseyside.
Heare some of our volunteers and their impression of the iconic door alarm. From the 506/8 units!

First off is Jamie, member of our committee and Operations and Project Manager.
Then we have Chris one of our operations and events volunteers and finally Paul Committee member and General secrstery.

What do you think of the attempts? Recon you good do better? Feel free to drop your attempts in the comments. 😎

We also have a sneak peak of videos to come at the end of the video! 👀

Wow, has it really been a year since the Greatest Gathering?
It really was up there with the best weekends I have ever had, and an unforgettable experience.
I was an absolute pleasure meeting so many new and existing customers. Customer interaction is my favourite part of the job so that really made it.

We brought the Class 442 cab simulator. That was an incredible achievement along with The Cab Yard to get that ready for the show, and thankfully it went down an absolute storm. More cab simulators on the cards soon.. The 442 now lives at the https://www.facebook.com/llanellirailway for all to experience.

Both the above and the Class 507 Preservation Society simulator, which was also on display, were built by myself as charitable projects to give back to the preservation community.

And it was when the PBC Pro was first revealed in public. Since then it has been developed even further until it was finally released, with the 2nd batch due next weekend...

Thanks for all your support over the last year. Lots of exciting things to come during the 2nd half of the year.

Hard to believe it's a year since The Greatest Gathering! From 1st-3rd August 2025 we welcomed thousands of visitors to 507001 at ALSTOM's Litchurch Lane works, for this once in a generation railway event.

As well as the chance to climb aboard the unit and see inside the cab, other highlights included our pit tours, merchandise stand and the debut of our simulator. Thanks to the amazing Team 507 (in the final picture) for all their hard work at the show.

Were you at the event? Share some of your favourite memories in the comments!
