Today we’re at STEM in Action, Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council's new careers event for Year 12 to Upper Sixth students. 🚆

A career in rail with OTT is unique, hands-on and rewarding, and it's a route a lot of young people never hear about.

Our team is here to talk about the OTT Rail Apprenticeship, created and launched by On Track Technicians to give the next generation a route into the industry, earning while they learn.

We've also brought along the Rail Bee along so students can see it up close and find out what it does. 🐝

If you're here today at Lagan Valley Island, come and say hello to Graeme Beck, Andy Irwin and Adam Murphy, who has been through the Rail Apprenticeship himself so can share plenty about the experience.

Meet the Team: Graeme 👋

This week we're introducing Graeme Po***ck, our new Managing Director who joined the team officially last week. 🚆

Graeme is already well-known in the industry, with a wealth of experience developed during his time at Translink. We are absolutely delighted to welcome Graeme to the team and now, to share a little bit more about him:

🌟Where do you join OTT from?
I have joined OTT from Translink where I was a Senior Programme Manager working on the track portfolio.

🌟What first sparked your interest in rail?
I first started working on the railway over 22 years ago as a Project Manager working on the Structures Maintenance. Since then, I have moved through various roles working on the railway.

🌟What attracted you to On Track Technicians?
I have known the Irwin family since before OTT was ‘born’ and we've always had a good working relationship. When the opportunity became available I was happy to join a successful company where I believe I can help on its growing journey.

🌟What are you most looking forward to in your first months?
Getting to know everyone at On Track Technicians who has helped the company achieve the success it has had already, and to work with the senior team to identify the goals for the next few years.

🌟 One fun fact about you:
I was involved in producing Europe’s largest land art project (at the time) which spanned 11 acres at the Titanic Museum, along with Cubin-American artist Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada.

Project Update: Rail Bee in action 🐝🚆

Over the past two weekends, our team has carried out a run of level crossing works for Translink's S&T department across Umbra, Clooney, Barmouth, Lock and Du Pont.

The Rail Bee, our on-track crane unit, was the star of the show. It safely lifted out old wig wags at Clooney and Barmouth and held the new units in position while Translink S&T connected, bolted and tested them. At Lock and Du Pont, it replaced the loc skins straight from the track.

Thanks to the Translink S&T team for their support on a busy couple of weekends.

Meet the Team: Orlaith 👋

This week we're introducing Orlaith McParland, our Office Administrator here at On Track Technicians who, quite literally, keeps most of us on track. 🚆

Orlaith joined us from the construction industry, where she built up a wealth of knowledge working in a busy office. A fast-paced environment is right up her street, so she's fitted in perfectly. We caught up with her to find out a bit more...

What were you doing before joining On Track Technicians?
I worked in an office in the construction industry.

What first sparked your interest in this career or industry?
I was keen to learn about railway works. I gained a lot of knowledge in the construction trade, and I enjoy working in a busy, fast-paced environment.

What attracted you to join On Track Technicians?
Honestly, the people. It's such a friendly office to be part of. The company is also flexible, which is handy with two children.

What are you enjoying most about your role so far?
The team! 💛

One fun fact about you?
I'm a fully qualified sports massage therapist! 💆‍♀️

🚧 Project News: Enhanced track alignment at Lurgan

OTT and Adman Civil Projects Ltd JV were engaged by Translink’s Permanent Way Team to design and deliver a tamping scheme through three busy level crossings in Lurgan - William Street, Lake Street and Bells Row. In addition, tamping took place through Lurgan train station platforms, Brownlow S&C, plain line and two over bridges.

The associated works involved the removal and reinstatement of the Rosehill level crossing units under limited time constraints to allow the passage of trains and road vehicles each day.

These track conditioning improvements will allow the track speed to be increased to 90mph, in line with improving the Enterprise travel times and customer experience between Belfast and Dublin.

Big thanks to our JV partners Adman for their support, the OTT off-track and survey teams, alongside Novus Rail who supported the design and delivery.
