🐴☀️ TOP TIPS: TRANSPORTING HORSES IN HOT WEATHER ☀️🐴

With temperatures rising, travelling horses needs a little extra planning. Keeping them cool, hydrated and comfortable should always be the priority.
✅ DO
💧 Offer plenty of water before and after travelling, and offer water during longer journeys where possible.
🌅 Travel early or later in the day when temperatures are lower. Avoid the hottest part of the afternoon whenever possible.
🌬️ Keep air circulating — good ventilation is essential, but avoid creating uncomfortable draughts.
🚛 Plan your route and allow extra time. Traffic and delays can quickly turn a straightforward journey into a hot one.
🧂 Consider electrolytes for horses that are sweating heavily, but only if they are already accustomed to them.
👀 Check your horse regularly throughout the journey. Look for excessive sweating, unusual breathing, lethargy or signs of distress.
🛑 Have a contingency plan in case of breakdowns, traffic delays or unexpected stops.
❌ DON'T
🚫 Don't travel during the hottest part of the day unless absolutely necessary.
🚫 Don't shut off ventilation to try to keep the horse calm, fresh airflow is vital.
🚫 Don't leave horses standing in a stationary vehicle unnecessarily.
🚫 Don't ignore signs of overheating. If your horse is showing concerning symptoms, stop somewhere safe and seek veterinary advice.
🚫 Don't assume that because a journey is normally easy, it will be the same in extreme temperatures. Conditions can change quickly.
