Wow...interesting!

Coming to a river near you … Chinese Mitten Crab (Erocheir sinensis).
This invasive crab is native to Asia but has become present in the UK as an invasive species. It is easily recognisable due to the hairs on its claws. They hatch in marine environments and then migrate into freshwater where they spend most of their lives (2-5 years), then migrate back to salt water to breed.
They present a major risk to our rivers and estuaries as they burrow into river banks, and are omnivores eating insects, fish eggs and vegetation.
If found please take a photo and report to iRecord so that we can understand their distribution.
Learn how to ID the species here: https://secure.fera.defra.gov.uk/nonnativespecies/downloadDocument.cfm?id=367
