A stray dog turned an ordinary morning into an extraordinary rescue after being spotted alone on the platform at South Merton station.

Quick thinking colleagues stepped in, stopping the train and bringing the wandering pup to safety before giving her an unexpected cab ride across south London. Thanks to a coordinated effort from train crew and station teams, the well-travelled dog was safely cared for and reunited with her owner later that day.

This heartwarming incident highlights the power of teamwork across the railway and serves as an important reminder for passengers to keep their dogs close and on a lead while at stations.

Could this be London’s most 'looked-at' air quality display? 👀

We are extremely delighted to announce that we have joined forces with Imperial College London to highlight air quality issues in south London.

The community of Peckham is now being kept informed by a simple AWAIR display with red, amber, yellow and green LEDs mounted at the exit to Peckham Rye station, one of London’s busiest stations.

The display shows whether current air quality meets or exceeds World Health Organisation (WHO) thresholds and what is forecast for the next day.

It could be seen by up to 6 million passengers a year and is updated hourly with live data received from an air quality model developed by the University using air pollution measurements from a network of monitoring stations across London.

The World Health Organisation has identified poor air quality as a leading environmental risk to health, with nearly 99% of the global population breathing air that exceeds the WHO safety limit.

By working together with AWAIR and Imperial College London, we will help raise awareness about this vitally important issue.

SQUEAKY SEAT-BACK TRAIN TABLES HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE SILENT TREATMENT 🤫

A familiar sound for passengers travelling on our Southern trains across London and the South Coast is no more!

The squeak of seat-back tray tables being pulled down or folded back up is soon to be a thing of the past, as new – silent – parts are being rolled out across our fleet of Electrostar trains, the largest in the country.

More than 31,000 ageing rubber ‘bushes’, the part which reduces friction when the table is moved, will be replaced with a nylon version on seat-back tables across the fleet as part of our regular maintenance programme, which will also include a fresh lick of paint, new seat fabrics and new carpets throughout.

We’re all familiar with the moment you lower a table and feel like you’ve announced yourself to the whole carriage. This is quickly becoming a thing of the past as we refurbish our trains to make journeys even more comfortable.

We’re hot on the heels of change, tackling even the squeakiest of details, as we know small improvements like these often make the biggest difference to your journey.
