MONTEGO BAY SUSPENDED SAILINGS:
As you may already be aware, the port in Montego Bay has been experiencing significant delays following the severe hurricane damage to the local infrastructure. Although recovery efforts are ongoing, the port has unfortunately been unable to return to normal operating levels, particularly in relation to the unloading and processing of containers, which is outside of our control.
In addition, the substantial influx of humanitarian aid and emergency supplies arriving in Jamaica in the aftermath of the hurricane has placed even greater pressure on the port facilities and resources. While these shipments are of course vital, they have further contributed to the congestion and delays currently being experienced.
After carefully monitoring the situation and exploring every possible alternative, we have made the very difficult decision to temporarily suspend our service to Montego Bay. This suspension will affect both scheduled sailings in May, as well as the first sailing in June. At present, we are hopeful that services will resume with the sailing scheduled for 18 June, although we will continue to closely review the situation and may reinstate the first sailing in June, should anything change.
We fully understand the inconvenience and disruption this decision may cause to our customers, and we sincerely apologise for this. However, we believe that temporarily pausing further shipments is the most responsible course of action at this time. Continuing to send additional containers into an already heavily congested port would only add to the existing backlog and further delay the processing of cargo currently awaiting clearance.
