This morning 37250 was utilised for a rather special project. Assisting our friends at GB Railfreight, we collected 60087 from Castle Hills Jn. With the additional assistance from the recovery team at DB Cargo for the wheel-skate, the locomotive was hauled at walking pace for the 5 mile journey to Leeming Bar where she will await onward movement by road.

Always a pleasure to be of assistance.

Many thanks to all who attended last weekend’s Wensleydale Railway diesel gala. Pleased to say it all went superbly.

It was 47714’s first in her new colour scheme and whilst she suffered a minor hiccup first thing Saturday morning, this was soon rectified. First use of vacuum brakes in 15 years, naturally it wasn’t all going to be perfect.
Meanwhile 33035 & 37250 performed without fault.

If anyone has any pictures they’d like to share, please feel free to comment on the thread below. We’d love to see your shots.

Finally we will have some running days booked over the summer, we will do our best to advertise in advance on this platform to give you all plenty of notice.

Another glorious day in Wensleydale as we ready for the final trip of the day with 37250.

Welcome 47714.
As no doubt you’re all aware by now, 47714 has been secured by the Wensleydale Railway and so will fall under the umbrella of our care. We therefore welcome it as another fine addition to our stable.

Starting strong:
Starting midweek Rob CW, gave the loco a deep steam clean interior/exterior for initial inspection, before turning his attention to the loco batteries, which after some TLC, turned out to be quite serviceable.

Then to this weekend, Rob M went over the electrical cubicle, giving all the contactors a good clean, whilst Rob CW greased the under frame and barred the engine round to ensure smooth rotation before going on to clean electrical motors throughout the locomotive. Andy R repaired defects in the cab area.
The locos main air reservoir was then connected up to the shed compressor to inspect for any air leaks and check basic air functionality. Meanwhile a lighting inspection was undertaken. With all green lights so far, safe to say solid progress was being made.

Today we next turned to the triple-pump. (Which circulates oil, coolant and fuel around the engine prior to start up). The pump operated correctly and after a good long run, oil and water pressure levels raised correctly as we hoped.

Finally 47714 was dragged outside for a first start attempt and we’re pleased to say (as below shows) she started first time. Great news!

As many have been asking, the primary objective is to get 47714 operational and reliable and be in a position to assist as back up for 33035 (if required) during this polar express season (which has began as of this weekend). After which (in the new year) we will set about the bigger works regarding repairs to the bodywork and aim to have it repainted for summer 2025.

So many colours to choose from… what do you suggest folks? (Hit Like & Comment below)

Teddy Bear update:
D9513 made significant progress yesterday completing a loaded test run from Leeming Bar to Scruton & return a couple of times. Thankfully all proved successful.
D9523 retuned from its recent foray to the Eccleabourne Valley Railway class 14 gala, where it performed both superbly and faultlessly.
Both locos are set to take part in the Wensleydale Railway’s Industrial event over the bank holiday weekend along with WL4, 03144 and the sentinel.
