The Lead Quality Paradox Nobody Talks About

One of the funniest conversations we had recently was with a business owner who said:

"I just want leads that fill in the form and then phone me up."

And I laughed.

Because honestly...

Don't we all?

Those leads are the unicorns of marketing.

They exist.

But they're incredibly rare.

Most business owners have this idea that the perfect lead looks like:

Fill in form.
Phone immediately.
Ready to buy.
Credit card in hand.

The reality is very different.

Think about it.

I want a Ferrari.

But am I phoning Ferrari tomorrow and demanding to buy one?

No.

Of course not.

It's a big decision.

I'll research.

I'll compare.

I'll think about it.

I'll look at alternatives.

I'll take my time.

And that's exactly what your customers are doing too.

The bigger the purchase, the more consideration is involved.

Which creates what I call the Lead Quality Paradox.

Everybody wants highly qualified leads.

But highly qualified leads often require nurturing.

They need:

Content.
Trust.
Follow-up.
Case studies.
Conversations.

They rarely arrive fully convinced and desperate to spend money immediately.

That's not how most buying decisions work.

The goal isn't finding magical leads who need zero effort.

The goal is creating a process that turns interested prospects into paying customers.

That's why:

Email marketing matters.

Content matters.

Retargeting matters.

Follow-up matters.

Because most sales happen after trust is built.

Not at the very first interaction.

And honestly, businesses that understand this tend to outperform everyone else.

Because instead of chasing mythical unicorn leads, they focus on building systems that convert real people.

That's where growth happens.

Should You Put Your Prices on Facebook Ads?

Most agencies hide their prices. We tested putting pricing on our Facebook ads and bookings jumped. Here is what happened and how to test it.

Be Very Careful With Long-Term Marketing Contracts

One thing that always surprises me is how many businesses get locked into long-term marketing contracts.

Twelve months upfront.

Six-month commitments.

Huge cancellation penalties.

And honestly, I do not think most businesses should be agreeing to that.

A deposit?

Sure.

A monthly agreement?

Absolutely.

But locking yourself into something for a year before you've seen any results?

That is a different conversation.

The reality is marketing takes time.

When we onboard a new client, we ask for three months.

Not because we want to lock people in.

Quite the opposite.

We want enough time to actually do the work properly.

Run the ads.

Create the content.

Build the SEO.

Gather the data.

Optimise the campaigns.

Because none of that happens overnight.

Facebook alone has a learning phase.

The first couple of weeks can be chaotic.

We've had someone from China book a strategy call before, despite targeting local businesses.

Sometimes the algorithm needs time to understand who the right audience actually is.

That is normal.

Which is why three months makes sense.

It gives enough time to get everything up and running properly.

But here is the important question:

What happens if you hate working with the agency?

What happens if communication is poor?

What happens if nothing gets delivered?

What happens if they disappear after you have paid?

We recently spoke to a business owner who was trapped in exactly that situation.

They were stuck in a lengthy contract and could not get out of it.

The relationship was not working.

The results were not there.

But the contract remained.

So they came to us anyway.

That is a horrible position to be in.

Marketing partnerships should be built on results and trust.

Not contractual handcuffs.

Because if an agency is confident in what they do, they should not need to trap clients for a year before proving their value.

The Difference Between Activity And Results

One of the biggest frustrations we hear from businesses is this:

"We've been paying an agency for months and nothing seems to be happening."

And when we dig into it, the reason becomes obvious.

There are no deliverables.

No momentum.

No meaningful output.

We recently took on a client who was paying an SEO agency every month.

What were they getting?

One blog post.

One page.

That was it.

Two pieces of content a month.

Now compare that to what we're doing.

We've already planned 55 location pages.

Fifty-five.

And that's before we've even started the blog content.

Those pages alone will take us through June and into July.

That's a completely different level of activity.

But more importantly, it's a completely different level of opportunity.

Because SEO is often a volume game combined with quality.

More relevant pages.

More opportunities to rank.

More opportunities to be found.

More opportunities for AI and search engines to understand exactly what you do and where you do it.

This is where many businesses get caught out.

They think they're investing in marketing.

But they're really just paying for maintenance.

Enough activity to look busy.

Not enough activity to create growth.

And that's the difference.

Marketing should produce momentum.

You should be able to see what's being built.

What's being published.

What's being improved.

What's being tested.

Because if nothing is happening, nothing is going to change.

The businesses winning market share right now are producing more content, creating more assets and building more visibility than their competitors.

That's how growth happens.

Not through promises.

Through output.

More Leads Is Not Always Better

One of the biggest mistakes businesses make is obsessing over lead volume.

“How can I get more leads?”

“How can I get 15 leads a day?”

“How can I double my enquiries?”

But here is the reality.

Getting more leads is easy.

Getting good leads is much harder.

Could we generate 15 leads a day?

Probably.

But if those leads are poor quality, what have you actually gained?

Now your team is spending all day:

Calling people back.
Sending emails.
Chasing responses.
Qualifying prospects out.

That is expensive.

And it is frustrating.

The goal is not maximum leads.

The goal is maximum qualified leads.

There is a huge difference.

For example:

Twenty low-quality leads a day might sound impressive.

But if nineteen of them are never going to buy, you have created a lot of work and very little value.

On the other hand...

Three highly qualified leads a day can transform a business.

Because those people are already a good fit.

They have already seen the pricing.

They understand the offer.

They meet the criteria.

They are genuinely interested.

That is where proper qualification comes in.

The Facebook form.

The landing page.

The content.

The messaging.

The pricing.

All of these things should be filtering people before they ever speak to you.

That means fewer wasted conversations.

Better conversion rates.

Higher quality clients.

And ultimately, more revenue.

The businesses that win are not chasing the biggest lead numbers.

They are building systems that attract the right people.

That is a very different goal.
