How much does it cost to use Ring & Ride?

To join the scheme is £20 per year (concessions are available). Then each trip is calculated according to the return trip mileage. For example, a return trip from Ledbury to Hereford Hospital is £24.00, with the driver waiting up to one and a half hours.

Community Transport Week 2026

One of the remarkable things about community transport is that almost all the work is done by volunteers. This is our latest volunteer driver, Bob Walker, who has just completed a successful test drive. He and his wife recently moved to Ledbury after he retired from running a busy window blind business in Shrewsbury.

Bob says: "I have had a very fortunate life and was looking for a way of giving something back. Driving for Ring & Ring is perfect for me as it is very flexible."

Let’s talk about money: It costs around £240,000 each year to run Community Action Ledbury.

We are very grateful for the regular, annual grants we receive from Herefordshire Council and Ledbury Town Council.

But to keep our fees as low as possible for our users, we still need to raise around £40,000 each year to balance the books. Most of this comes from trust funds, but any donations are gratefully received.

Each year, across the seven schemes, a small army of 275 volunteers complete over 18,200 journeys, helping more than 2,200 users.

Community Transport Week 2026

This is Community Transport making a difference one person at a time. Today, our newest Ring & Ride driver, Paddy Almond, brought 95-year-old Duseline Stewart into Ledbury from her care home in Dymock, for a meeting of the U3A Opera Group.

Duseline says "It means a lot to me being able to get to this group. I love classical music and I don't get to listen to it at home. I think Ring & Ride is a marvelous service - I would be lost without it. And the drivers are all so friendly"

During Community Transport week we celebrate the efforts of the 67 volunteers who help run Community Action Ledbury. Day-in day-out, these local heroes give up their time to take calls in the office, drive people to hospital and drive our minibuses. This amazing volunteer effort is one of the things that makes Community Transport so special.

Community Transport Week 26.

Tuesdays are always one of our busiest days of the week. Today, we have 13 volunteer drivers in action, completing the following journeys:

• Three young people with special needs from Newent to and from Salters Hill day centre
• Four people to appointments at Hereford Hospital (all different times)
• Lady to treatment at Hinton in Hereford
• One lady to a Zumba class at the Community Centre
• A lady in from Aylton in to Ledbury for her shopping
• A lady from Bosbury to get her haircut and visit Home Bargains
• Lady from Pixley to Barnards Green for hearing treatment
• Another lady from Ledbury to the opticians in Malvern
• Our Community Bus run bringing people from Pendock and Sledge Green into Ledbury
• Good Companions group on a minibus trip to Hanley Castle.

What is Community Transport Week?

It is a UK-wide awareness event celebrating the essential role that Community Transport organisations play in the community - literally “Driving Communities Forward”. Across the country, more than 740 voluntary organisations provide vital transport services to the elderly, disabled and others who struggle to get around. Without these voluntary groups, many individuals would be unable to access healthcare, social events and activities.
