Sailing at Bewl Water Sailing, 2nd September 2015. 10 Toppers with numerous children participating on a course with their instructors, 8 Midweekers boats and 1 windsurfer took to the water yesterday together with 5 safety boats. 2 RIBs and 3 Commandos all with qualified motor boat helms to look after us.

There was little wind and many Midweekers boats stayed on the shore. My husband and I stepped the mast of my 470

and we went afloat with a gentle breeze, which enabled us to get a few pictures. The wind picked up a little to give us an enjoyable sail. The entertainment being, sailing a course, capsize and recovery drill for the Toppers.

Sunday has seen racing for a trophy, round the bouys these last few weeks, with double figures participating.

Many thanks to all those volunteers and staff at Bewl Water Sailing who have made this possible. So come and join us.

It is so good to be back on the water

Bewl Water's owners have made available annual sailing permits to allow sailing at Bewl to continue following the Bewl Valley Sailing Club going into administration. These permits are now available from Bewl Water Sailing (telephone 01892 890000).
We are pleased that increasing numbers of sailors have already taken advantage of these permits and are once more enjoying sailing at Bewl.
For the 38 years of its operation, sailing at Bewl in the absence of dedicated safety boat cover has always been allowed (weather conditions permitting) provided that those sailing can evidence that they have achieved a level of competence to do so. We continue to require evidence of competence for those who wish to sail at these times and, although not continually patrolling, always have safety boat available on a reactive basis at all times that any water sports activity is in progress.
In addition we are providing - currently at no charge - a safety launch to sailors on Wednesday afternoons and weekends, provide that the sailors are able to provide a qualified boat coxswain, to give the opportunity to those less confident to access the water. This will ensure that more fair weather sailors can get afloat in the few remaining months of the summer.
For those who are not able to show that they have achieved the level of competence required to sail unsupervised but would like to do so, the Bewl Water Outdoor Centre is offering personal tuition sessions. (For tuition telephone Bewl Water Outdoor Centre on 03000 415200.)
During this period a large group of sailors who are keen to help continue the sport at Bewl has formed to address going forwards, amongst other matters, the issue of safety boats, and safety boat crews. The Royal Yachting Association has also been advised of the process of re-establishing sailing and is encouraging, as well as keen for it to succeed.

Bewl Water is committed to ensuring that safe sailing continues on this beautiful lake and is grateful for the efforts of those who are helping us to do so.
