It’s days like today that gives me fulfilment in my role.

I always said if I could give back I would. However, most of the credit today goes to Chris Humes for getting the contact within the Renfrewshire council and creating an opportunity to pitch them our idea of getting the unemployed a chance in the railway sector.

Chris and I explained our backgrounds, our personal success stories in the rail industry, who Nelson Track Solutions are and how the listeners today could also make a great career happen for themselves in the rail sector.

I’m now delighted to announce the Renfrewshire council liked our pitch today and have decided to fund 5 candidates with their PTS / Small tools / track induction / fire safety certs and Medicals. This will be a test pilot run and if successful funding will continue.

For an industry that is facing a huge skills shortage this is a great first step to finding funding from local councils to help us close the skills gap that will only continue to grow if we don’t bring in new people.
