🇵🇹 ALVOR BAÍA RESORT REVIEW… would I go back? 👀
After 10 nights at Alvor Baía Resort Hotel, I can safely say… we absolutely LOVED it! ❤️
And because I’ve now stayed there myself, here’s the proper review — the good, the bad and the “I’m being really picky now” 😂👇
📍 LOCATION
You’re around a 20-minute walk from Alvor town and the beach, OR:
🚌 FREE hotel shuttle
🚂 Hop-on hop-off train – €5pp for the day (under 5s free)
🏨 THE HOTEL
It’s HUGE, the staff were genuinely lovely and our room was cleaned every day.
There are lifts everywhere, so ideal for pushchair friendly and it would also be a good option for anyone with mobility difficulties as if there’s no lift it is flat.
🍉 THE FOOD
Honestly? Really, really good.
In 10 nights there was ONE evening where I thought the choice wasn’t quite as good… and trust me, I still didn’t go hungry 😂
There was SO much choice:
🥩 Usually at least 4 meat options
🐟 2–3 fish choices
🔥 BBQ nights throughout the week
🥗 Huge salad selection
🌱 Vegetarian section
👧 Kids’ section
🍗 And yes… if your child intends to survive on chicken nuggets for the entire holiday, they’re safe 😂
🍉 Loads of fresh fruit
🥐 Pastries, breads, cereals & yoghurts
🍳 Full breakfast selection – although no omelettes
Lunch and dinner had plenty of choice too, with things like kebabs, pittas and wraps available.
🍦 SNACK BAR
I actually REALLY liked how they did this.
When the buffet closed, the snack bar opened, so there was always somewhere to eat.
It was indoors and the food was served to you rather than everyone helping themselves.
Which meant…
👏 No fingers in the food
👏 No serviettes blowing around the pool
👏 No sun loungers covered in ketchup 😂
Ice cream was served in the afternoon — chocolate, vanilla and strawberry in a cone or tub… or all three if you’re on holiday and living your best life 😂🍦
🍹 DRINKS
Loads of alcoholic and non-alcoholic choices and around 8 cocktails — the mojito was definitely my favourite! 🍸
🎤 ENTERTAINMENT
This surprised me the most.
Was it West End production level? Absolutely not 😂
But the atmosphere was BRILLIANT.
Pool aerobics, floaty races, volleyball, darts, bingo, musical chairs, quizzes, karaoke, Latin dancing, silent discos, themed kids’ clubs, inflatable surf machine, mini disco…
And my personal favourite — Finish The Lyrics! 🎶
Sit around the pool, they stop the song and you have to finish the lyrics.
Get it wrong?
🪣💦 BUCKET OF WATER OVER YOUR HEAD!
One teenage lad was praying for Wonderwall and got Barbie Girl 😂
Then a young girl got Whitney Houston and didn’t know the words, so practically the entire pool started singing them for her.
THAT summed the hotel up for me.
Nothing ridiculously fancy — just everyone joining in and having a genuinely brilliant time. ❤️
👶 FOR FAMILIES
The main pool is walk-in/shallow at both ends and has a maximum depth of 1.4m.
There’s also:
💦 Baby pool/splash area
🛝 Playground
⚽ Football
🏀 Basketball
🏐 Volleyball
🎾 Padel courts
And they’re free to use.
☀️ NOW LET’S TALK SUNBEDS…
The lifeguards are RUTHLESS. 😂👏
They use a sticker system and mark the time you leave your sunbed.
Gone for more than an hour?
Your towels, books, hats and belongings are going into a clear bag and your sunbed is GONE. 😂
It happened to us once.
Walking over to the lifeguard station to reclaim our belongings genuinely felt like the walk of shame 🙈🤣
But it completely stops people reserving beds all day and disappearing.
⭐ SO… WHAT DIDN’T I LIKE?
I’ll always give you the negatives too.
🛏️ Sunbeds – They arnt the comfy ones. But I find this a lot in Portugal hotels. I’d buy one of the roll-up sunbed mattresses.
🏖️ Pool towels – €20 deposit and you could only exchange them every 4 days. I’d prefer every 1–2 days.
🪑 Evening seating – definitely not enough tables and chairs when the entertainment was busy.
🍹 Drinks – maximum 3 drinks per person at the bar, so families of 4+ may need two people to go up.
And genuinely… that’s about as critical as I can be.
Would I recommend Alvor Baía? 100% YES. 🇵🇹❤️
