“We dream big so we can achieve bigger” — well we certainly smashed that motto!

We’re incredibly proud to have been included in an amazing race featured on Amazon Prime’s The Grand Tour, which has launched tonight.

The challenge saw 50007 Hercules and 50049 Defiance play a part along with our good friend Francis and co host James aboard the locomotives, as they attempted to reach a destination, before their co host Thomas in his super car.

It was an unforgettable experience to be involved in such a fantastic production, and seeing our locomotives feature on The Grand Tour was spectacular.

A huge thank you to our hard working volunteers for ensuring the girls, looked, sounded and performed at their very best, GB Railfreight and the Severn Valley Railway for their assistance.

Be sure to tune into The Grand Tour on Amazon Prime, and to watch out Class 50’s in action on episode 5.

We are under two weeks away from 50007 Hercules and 50049 Defiance being paired up once again on a mainline outing for a very worthwhile cause on a charity based Railtour: “Toots Express”
Starting near the English capital at Alexandra Palace, the tour will make its way up to the Scottish capital, Edinburgh whereby there will be ample time to explore the city.
We set off once again towards the English capital, where our final drop off point will be Finsbury Park. There will be several diversions, and routes to be taken in on both the outward and return journeys and there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

As we celebrate the 1st anniversary of The Greatest Gathering – the world-class event held at Alstom Derby from 1st–3rd August 2025 – we're delighted to share an eagerly awaited update on 50035 Ark Royal and 50044 Exeter.

Following their starring roles at the event, both locomotives remained at Derby, enjoying an extended stay indoors over the winter while preparations began to return them to their more familiar appearance.

The striking vinyl wraps have now been completely removed, and both locomotives have been thoroughly rubbed down to provide the perfect surface for the next stage of the repainting process.

This exclusive footage gives you a behind-the-scenes look at the progress being made as 50035 and 50044 continue their journey back to their traditional colours.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone at Alstom's Litchurch Lane Works, Derby, for taking such great care of our locomotives. We fully appreciate the immense workload involved in building new trains over the past 12 months, which has understandably delayed this project.

Thank you for your continued patience and support—we hope you enjoy this exclusive update.

What a way to end a sizzling hot, yet incredible day at the Severn Valley Railway!

Today, we celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Class 50 Alliance and, most importantly, the unwavering tremendous support of our shareholders.

In the picture is just a small selection of the Class 50 Alliance team, along with the train crew of today’s shareholder charter. This is seen bringing the curtain down, after the final run this evening at Kidderminster with 50007.

Many thanks to all who could make it today and for being a part of this celebration.

After an issue presented itself two weeks ago with 50033 Glorious, our engineers had the opportunity to investigate and rectify the issue today, this concluded with taking Glorious out for a test run and declaring her fit for traffic. This couldn’t have come sooner as there has been an issue with a steam loco at the Severn Valley Railway, and 50033 Glorious will be deputising as its replacement.

11:10 off Bridgnorth
13:35 off Kidderminster
15:30 off Bridgnorth

We will hopefully be testing 50007 tomorrow so you might see that out and about also.
