A new OrbitalFlyers film is now live, and this one is a bit special.

Back in July, I set off into the West Highlands on an adventure that ended up producing three separate films. This is the story that brings the whole journey together.

Mountains, dams, castles, lochs, changing weather, quiet roads, unexpected stops and some of the most beautiful scenery I’ve ever filmed.

This is OrbitalFlyers at its most cinematic, and probably one of the most personal journeys I’ve put together so far.

Irvine has its own dragon, and it’s been watching over the beach for nearly 40 years.
Created by artist Roy Fitzsimmons in the 1980s, the sculpture was built using stone from an old railway bridge and has picked up names including the Guardian of the Beach Park, the Watcher on the Hill and the Great Protector of Irvine.
Generations have climbed up for a photo with it.
But after all those years sitting above Irvine Beach...
maybe it was time for the dragon to move. 🐉

Crookston Castle is the only surviving medieval castle within Glasgow, but there’s far more to this place than the tower you see today.
A recent geophysical survey revealed evidence of much earlier settlement, lost defences, buildings within the castle grounds and even historic mining nearby.
And then there’s the story of James IV, a rather large cannon and what happened to Crookston’s missing towers...

The road between Saltcoats and Dalry is now closed for a £34.7 million upgrade, with disruption expected for up to 14 months.
Phase 1 covers just over two miles of road and includes a new overtaking lane.
But that £34.7 million is only Phase 1.
Phase 2 still needs separate funding, and there’s currently no published price for that part.
So when the whole route is finally finished…
what will it actually cost?

This is what Ardrossan Community Campus looked like this time last year… and this is where it is today.
There’s clearly been progress, but the project is now expected to cost around £124.6 million, with completion due in 2028.
A school, swimming pools, sports facilities, library and more are all planned for the site.
There’s still a fair bit to go though… ⏳
Same time next year then?

Dundonald Castle sits on a hill with around 3,500 years of history — Bronze Age settlement, Iron Age fort, medieval castles and even a royal residence.
Robert II, Scotland’s first Stewart king, lived here and died here in 1390.
Yet after all that history, the place is still named after one man we know almost nothing about.
