In July 2025, Irvine’s Forum was still standing.
Then came the fire on 2nd February 2026.
Six months later, the damaged section has been cleared and work around the site is due to begin next week.
For some, the Forum was an eyesore. For others, it was part of Irvine’s history.
What should this part of the town become now?

The £50 million Ayrshire Central development will provide 202 council homes and is North Ayrshire Council’s largest-ever housing project.
Some people already allocated homes say they expected to move in around Easter 2026. The first handovers are now expected in early 2027 after the council discovered what it described as “unrecorded services” on the site.
One anonymous family says their disabled son has already spent four years waiting for a suitable home.
Is an almost year-long delay acceptable?

Urquhart Castle is live.
I knew the castle had been fought over, but I hadn’t realised just how far back the story went. Long before the medieval walls, people were already using this headland above Loch Ness, and over the centuries it drew in St Columba, Edward Longshanks, Andrew Moray, the Lords of the Isles, the Grants and the final soldiers who blew apart the gatehouse rather than leave it usable.
This one became a much bigger story than I expected, following why the same point on the Great Glen mattered for more than a thousand years.

A family spent decades building one of Scotland’s greatest castles.
Before they could finish it, the wars came.

By 1337, Bothwell had fallen into English hands. A Scottish commander took it back, then made a brutal decision.

He brought down the strongest part of the castle himself, so the English could never use it again.

That broken tower above the Clyde is where that decision still shows.

But Bothwell has another story too, a governor’s daughter, a forbidden love, a stormy night, and a small boat on the river below.
