We are proud to share that Paolo Togonon, previously Staff Captain on Bolette, has been promoted to Captain. 🛳️

Paolo began his maritime career in 2004 as a Deck Cadet and, after graduating from the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific and serving on cargo vessels and OBO carriers, joined the Fred. Olsen family in 2011 as a Second Officer. He went on to serve as Safety Officer on board Black Watch and Braemar, before progressing to Chief Officer and later Staff Captain.

His career highlights include helping to restart the fleet following the pandemic, supporting major drydock projects, mentoring future generations of officers and crew, and taking part in Braemar’s memorable transit through the Corinth Canal in 2019. 🇬🇷

Outside of work, Paolo enjoys travelling with his family and particularly loves Norway’s fjords and Northern Lights, as well as the coastlines of Croatia, the Amalfi Coast and Lisbon. 🌉

As he begins this new chapter, Paolo remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, professionalism and guest experience while fostering a positive environment for guests and crew. A strong advocate for teamwork, professional development and creating opportunities for others to progress, Paolo believes leadership is built on trust, open communication, accountability and supporting people to achieve their full potential.

Paolo will begin his new role on board Bolette on 20th June.

Congratulations, Captain! 🎉

During a recent sailing aboard Balmoral, one of our guests, Jenny, and her grandson James, spotted a game taking place on deck between some of our Officers. Little did they know, that one of the participants was Fred. Olsen Senior! 🛳️

What looked like a game of croquet - with some rather unusual flattened balls - soon became something much more memorable when James was invited to join in.

As they played, Mr Olsen explained he had been working on a new version of croquet for use at sea, after discovering traditional round balls had a habit of rolling away on deck!

It wasn’t until the following day that Jenny and James realised just how special the moment had been. Not only did James come away with some expert tips on the new game, but also a very special story to treasure from his first ever Fred. Olsen cruise. 💙
