It’s been a busy couple of weeks and we’ve been all over the Highlands! Can you guess some of the places we’ve been?! 😆 Quite a few tours from Invergordon for the cruise ships and a few other bits and pieces a bit further away Including Glamis Castle and Edinburgh! I have zero availability until mid July but I do have availability for day tours out of Invergordon or Inverness with one of my other guides in Minnie the Merc!

One of the parts of the job no one else really sees (well apart from Cash and Fiona) . . The constant washing of minivans 😅.
This morning I travelled from home all the way to Stirling to pick up guests for the start of a two day tour . . And there’s some amount of bugs on the road at the moment so a little stop off for a quick wash (and a cup of coffee) before collecting guests was an absolute must! And some pictures of Minnie looking squeaky clean after Fiona gave her a wee wash last night 🧼

Whilst I was away in Edinburgh on Tuesday, Fiona took a lovely group of guests on an Outlander inspired tour. Here’s a lovely photo of Dot the Drinking Sheep shared by our guests! Michelle and friends joined Fiona from the Celebrity Eclipse for a wonderful day exploring some of the Highlands’ most atmospheric Outlander inspired locations.

Their adventure included Highland cows, the charming village of Beauly and Beauly Priory, scenic views over Loch Ness, lunch in Inverness, and visits to Culloden Battlefield and the magical Clava Cairns, believed to have inspired Craigh na Dun in Outlander.

A huge thank you to Michelle and friends for joining us. We hope you loved every moment of your Highland adventure with Fiona.

A wonderful day touring Edinburgh on Tuesday with Jacci and friends! We explored the historic Royal Mile from the castle, browsed some lovely local shops, and enjoyed a delicious lunch at McGonagall’s after a bit of a disaster with a lunch reservation at Frankensteins (I didn’t book it 😉)

In the afternoon we went up Carlton Hill for some amazing views before heading out to the beautiful village of Culross and then taking the scenic long route back across the Firth of Forth. Along the way we passed the magnificent Kelpies and stopped for one final stunning viewpoint of the Queensferry Crossing before returning to the Princess ship docked at Queensferry. A fantastic day filled with history, scenery, and great company!

A few weeks ago during our April Story & Soul Retreat, myself and Kate had to go fill up both my vans…

As I use fuel cards, I always have to give the registration numbers at the till. The lovely ladies in the Tesco petrol station noticed that BOTH registrations ended in “MLT” and asked what it stood for…

Without even thinking, I replied:
“Mad Ladies in Tartan!” 🤣

The whole place burst out laughing… mainly because it’s actually very accurate. Between the tartan, the storytelling, the endless adventures and the chaos, we really do look like a pair of mad ladies in tartan most days 😂

So now the jury’s out…

Do I keep the name Macaulay Luxury Travel…
OR…
Do we rebrand as Mad Ladies in Tartan?! 😅😂

Today I visited the beautiful island of Iona for the very first time, and I can completely understand why it is often described as a “thin place” where the distance between heaven and earth feels somehow smaller.

Steeped in history, spirituality, and breathtaking scenery, Iona has been a place of pilgrimage for centuries. In 565 AD, Saint Columba founded a monastery here after arriving from Ireland, and from this tiny island Christianity spread throughout much of Scotland.

Walking around the island today felt incredibly special. Ancient standing stones, weathered by centuries of wind and sea, sit amongst white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and sweeping coastal views that almost don’t seem real. Every corner of Iona feels peaceful, timeless, and deeply connected to the past.

To reach the island, I took the short ferry crossing from Fionnphort to Iona, which takes around 10 minutes, but it truly feels like stepping into another world.

Lunch was enjoyed at Argyll Hotel after a local recommendation, because it’s always best to speak to the locals!

I’m already looking forward to bringing guests here in just a few short weeks and sharing the magic, history, and beauty of this incredible island.

“The Isle of Mull is of isles the fairest
Of ocean gems ‘tis the first and rarest,
Green grassy island of sparkling fountains,
Of waving woods and high tow’ring mountains.” 🏔️

A little verse composed for the anthem “Isle of Mull” by Dugald MacPhail (1818–1887), and after today’s journey, I can honestly say it captures the spirit of this island perfectly.

Today I made my way to the Isle of Skye, then south through Fort William, across the Corran Ferry to Lochaline, and finally on to Mull.

Now cosied up in the Tobermory Hotel and looking forward to a full day of exploring tomorrow. It’s been a while since I last visited Mull, and I’d forgotten just how utterly breathtaking this island truly is.

On Monday we had the pleasure of welcoming guests on a private Highland Heritage Tour, and what a day it was.

From an incredible highland cows and a sheepdog demonstration to the ancient mysteries of Clava Cairns, the powerful history of Culloden, the beauty of Cawdor Castle, coastal wildlife spotting at Chanonry Point, and the peaceful Clootie Well, it was a full and unforgettable experience.

Our guests kept a great pace throughout the day, which meant we were even able to include a couple of extra special stops along the way.
