An important update regarding the biennial AITT council election.

We have extended the voting window for members until Friday, 21st August. Votes received after this date will not be counted.

In case you missed it, this is your opportunity to vote for which nominee you'd like to represent AITT members.

The successful candidates will take part in a voluntary two-year role and attend up to four meetings per year. They will use their knowledge and experience to help create a safer industry and continuously improve training standards.

Let’s hear it for our operator registration scheme, ACORNS. 🌰

Since launching ACORNS in 2014, our database has recorded more than 500,000 AITT-accredited candidates.
And that number just keeps growing. But why?

Well, there’s no such thing as a forklift licence. There is, however, a certificate of basic training.

Whether you’re recruiting a new employee, onboarding a contractor, or simply verifying training records, ACORNS can confirm if a certificate was issued by an AITT-accredited provider.

If it isn’t recorded on ACORNS, it isn’t AITT-accredited.

Voting opens from 3rd – 16th August 2026. Votes received after this date will not be counted.

Please note that only current members who hold an active membership are allowed to vote. Members are allocated a single vote, and it cannot be used to vote for yourself.

We’ve said it before, but we’ll say it again.

If you’re having trouble recruiting forklift operators, it might be that your ads exclude prime candidates for no reason.

Why would they do that, then?

In the UK, there are five accrediting bodies for workplace transport training within the . These are:







They all follow the same code of practice and use the same testing standards. Put simply, we’re all on the same page.

That means if you only specify one, or even two, bodies in your ad, then you rule out the best operator you never knew you could’ve had.

Instead, play it safe and just say, “accredited training”.

No risk to standards or safety required.

However unpleasant, it’s important to recognise the real-world consequences of unsafe workplace transport. ⚠️

A shipyard in Aberdeen failed to provide clear and effective segregation between workers and forklift traffic during cargo loading and unloading.

The consequence? A serious collision between a pedestrian and a forklift truck, causing life-changing injuries to the worker’s limbs.

The shipping company was fined £146,700 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £11,000.

This case reminds us that operator competence is only one part of the picture.

Effective traffic management and quality operator training are equally vital to reduce risk.
