Collett & Sons Ltd is a successful family owned Company, and can trace its roots back to 1928, where founder Richard Collett (Grandfather to the current directors of the Company) was collecting milk churns from farmers and delivering to the dairies with a ‘horse and cart’. Step forward 86 years and we find a specialist multi-modal operator that serves the Power generation, Oil & Gas, Heavy Engineering, Civil & Infrastructure, and Renewables industries. At present the company employs over 120 people, and runs a fleet of over one hundred diverse vehicles and trailers providing them with the ability to accommodate all customer transport requirements. We’re looking for a Heavy Lift Team Member to join our team, based at either our Goole depot.

If you enjoy practical work and working as part of a team, this could be your next move.

You’ll support our heavy lift and installation services on sites across the country, helping to move and position heavy cargo using specialist jacking and skidding equipment.

The role includes:
🔹 Assisting with jacking, skidding and installation work
🔹 Working with specialist heavy lift equipment
🔹 Supporting cargo handling on a range of sites
🔹 Acting as a trailer banksman, steersman or attendant during abnormal load movements

We’re looking for someone reliable, hardworking and flexible, with a full, clean driving licence. Relevant CCNSG, CPCS or BESC AME cards would be useful, but aren’t essential.

📍 Based at Goole
🕗 Monday–Friday
🚚 Working away, overnight stays and weekend work will be required
🏨 Subsistence costs covered when staying away from base

Go behind the scenes at Black Rock Sands with Phil Sutcliffe, Project Manager for the beach landing project completed earlier this year.

Filmed on location, Phil explains how the 131 Tonne shunt reactor arrives by sea, is discharged from the vessel and transported above the high-water mark, before its onward journey to National Grid’s Trawsfynydd Substation.

Follow the full journey of a 131 Tonne shunt reactor, from a beach landing at Black Rock Sands to onward transport and installation at Trawsfynydd Substation.

The reactor arrived at the Welsh coastline aboard the Terra Marique. A purpose-built ramp and around 290 metres of temporary trackway enabled the beach landing operation to be completed within a 12-hour tidal window.

Transported on 12-row modular drawbar trailer, the reactor then travelled under police es**rt to Trawsfynydd Substation, where our Heavy Lift team completed the final installation using hydraulic jacking and skidding equipment.

Collett has successfully completed a complex beach landing operation at Black Rock Sands, followed by the transport and installation of a 131 Tonne shunt reactor at National Grid’s Trawsfynydd Substation.

Working on behalf of Royal SMIT B.V., our team developed a specialist delivery solution to overcome significant inland route constraints, combining marine logistics, abnormal load transport and heavy lift installation.

With a restricted 12-hour tidal window, the beach landing required careful coordination, approximately 290 metres of temporary trackway and a purpose-built ramp to bring the reactor ashore.

Following the landing, the load continued under North Wales Police es**rt to the substation, where our Heavy Lift team completed the final installation using hydraulic jacking and skidding equipment.

Watch Collett transport three 8-metre-diameter reactor tanks through King’s Lynn.

Our latest project video follows the operation from vessel discharge at Boal Quay to delivery at a paper manufacturing facility, utilising six-axle step-frame trailers.

With an overall loaded height of 8.9 metres, the loads required a detailed route survey and the temporary removal of street furniture to accommodate their dimensions.

Successful wind farm deliveries depend on close coordination and collaboration across every team involved.

Our work at Lairg II Wind Farm demonstrated exactly that. Clear communication, careful planning and a shared commitment to the delivery programme helped us transport 107 turbine components safely and on schedule.

It’s great to receive such positive feedback from Ben Dowsett, Area Logistics Manager at Nordex UK & Ireland, recognising the teamwork behind these successful deliveries.

A closer look at the reactor tank deliveries through King’s Lynn.

Measuring 28 metres in length and 8 metres in diameter, the tanks were transported on six-axle step-frame trailers at a running height of 8.9 metres.

The images capture the sheer scale of the loads during their journey from Boal Quay to the paper manufacturing facility.
