The war with France is over and Sergeant Moses Blood leaves Spain after twenty years of soldiering and returns to Yorkshire, believing that his fighting days are over. But new enemies await him on the streets of Halifax where he spent the first ten years of his life in the workhouse.
After learning the truth about his parents’ tragic deaths, he seeks to punish those responsible - the Drakes. But soon finds his own life threatened by the Drakes, while facing further danger at the hands of an old adversary.
Blood is befriended by Waterloo veteran Billy Grubb, who has his own score to settle with the Drakes, and together they resolve to deliver their own form of justice.
