A rare occurence under nice skies - our Mk2 BUO 9810 currently on hire to Network Rail for use in the Ultrasonic IM fleet is seen at Blackpool alongside our generator coach which is currently part of the Rail 200 'Inspiration' train. Taken by our engineer Eric this morning.

A year in the making, an order has finally been placed for an additional set of CET (controlled emission toilet) equipment.

The main component being the underframe mounted tank complete with level monitoring equipment. This will be fitted to Mk2 FO 3351 which is currently undergoing work to allow it to re-enter service over the coming weeks, giving much needed additional first class capacity as well as the additional toilet facilities for our Mk2 charter set.

Work on 3351 has included welding of crash pillars, a complete brake system replacement, overhauled Motor Alternator and control unit, a new set of sealed batteries, new doors and a thorough service and reinstatement of the Air Conditioning equipment.

Another one on the comeback trail.

What is now a fairly rare beast in the form of a Mk2E TSO. 5787 ended its career with DRS and spent quite a bit of time on the Wherry Lines 'Short Set'. Compared to the later Mk2F versions, the numbers of Mk2E's remaining in service is now relatively low.

The vehicle is undergoing a major exam plus a few other jobs including a new set of batteries and a main reservoir tank change as it’s exceeded the 10 year life.

The interior seats are slightly different to Mk2F vehicles with no central arm rest. The heating and aircon systems are also independent plus the saloon end doors are hand operated sliding doors.

A successful first leg of UK Railtours Manxman land cruise to the Isle of Man.

Another packed day. Two in… seven out. ERS is pleased to confirm that it has purchased spare NR mk3 vehicles 12153 and 11099. These were recently in service for Third Life Rail before passing to Network Rail as part of the Rail 200 Inspiration Train project. 4 were used in the train, one scrapped for parts and 2 kept as spares.

These vehicles are in excellent condition and will go into the ERS mk3 charter fleet fairly quickly. One of the photos show the excellent condition of the first class interior.

The locos bringing these in then took a mixed set of vehicles out for tomorrow’s UK Railtours land cruise train. The first class coaches laid up for dining looking spectacular again.

‘Doorlivery’ day - last week we took delivery of no less than 7 brand new passenger doors which represents a significant investment.

We continue to restore, reactivate and upgrade our fleet and as our order book grows we need to keep on top of the requirements including new doors.

A mk2 brake coach has no less than 6 different door types, some like the centre emergency door get used very rarely but they all still have to pass the required examination tasks.
