Hop to it this Bank Holiday weekend!

🐸 Frog Facts 🐸

💙 Blue Poison Dart Frogs each have a unique pattern of black spots on their head and back which makes them individually identifiable

💙Males have heart shaped toe pads whilst females have round ones.

💙 Unlike other frogs they don’t have webbed toes so aren’t great swimmers. They prefer living on the forest floor amongst the rocks and leaves.

💙 They live in isolated areas of Suriname and Brazil and weren’t discovered until 1969.

💙 In the wild they face threats from habitat destruction, climate change and a deadly chytrid fungus.

You can check them out in our Rainforest Zone.

Butterfly Splitfins are native to the Ameca River basin in Mexico 🇲🇽

They’re Critically Endangered on the iucnred_list due to having relatively isolated populations that make reproduction difficult as well as facing agricultural pollution. Invasive species in their habitat also attack their fry.

Understanding more about them and creating environments where they can thrive may be able to help wild populations in the future.
