Vanhalla Removals and Clearances ceased trading officially in April 2024

Any work in this field carried out under the name Vanhalla after that date has nothing to do with this business

So they finally set the date to close the tip on Wednesdays. All these changes they have brought in have killed off not just us but other independent waste management companies

Just.passing this information on, as you may not be aware. From 1 June 2025 recycling centres will be closed on Wednesdays.

So now not only do you have to book in order to go, there's now one less day in which you can do so. Brilliant move from the council 🙄

The date after which all of Norfolk's tips will be shut on Wednesdays has been confirmed by council officials.

So now they are blatantly advertising that they want to do away with the clearance companies, because making it clear trade is no longer welcome at the recycling centres wasn't enough. I don't wish to sound like a broken record but I'm so glad I got out when I did

How can you prevent fly-tipping? Step 3: Refuse!
Refuse offers to have your rubbish taken away. It could be fly-tipped and you could be fined.

Absolutely ludicrous changes. This would have absolutely crippled us. Fortunately we were able to fold on our own terms having seen the writing on the wall a year ago. I feel for any legitimate clearance business out there having to compete against the flytippers filling a van for £50

Advice about disposing of business, commercial and trade waste, and your legal responsibilities

I think we got out at the right time, I expect an increase in flytipping to occur. Make sure you check for a waste licence, if the price seems cheap then it's probably going in a field somewhere

Another backwards step by the council. There is no money in rubbish anymore. How things have changed from the 'golden days' of the pandemic where you could easily be booked up 7 days a week and waste was a reasonable price to dispose of. Now prices have skyrocketed and you have less time in a week in which to get rid of all you have accumulated

People will have to book time slots to take waste to Norfolk's tips from this November.

More things to make the man & van life more difficult. I had heard this was coming for a long time but you hear rumours like this a lot. It seems the day has finally come and now to use both Suffolk and Norfolk tips you'll have to book. This would've caused a lot of issues for me had I still been trading. The only way around this would have been to use commercial tips. Which means my prices would've risen drastically and I was already having to quote my bottom price just to get work in. So this more than likely would've put me out of business. At least I got to close on my own terms

It is changes like this that helped contribute to us folding the company. Reduced hours in Norfolk and limited to two bookings a week in Suffolk. Commercials were out of the question as we would have had to raise our prices and we were fighting for scraps as it was. Costs were going up and we were beginning to get undercut by prices we simply couldn't afford to match. Now as a member of the general public my gripe with this is the mixed messaging we receive. We are constantly being encouraged to recycle what we can whilst it is being made increasingly difficult to do so by the local authorities

Norfolk's recycling centres are to shut once a week to save £200,000 a year in a bid to plug a £60m financial blackhole.
