East Herts Miniature Railway Society Ltd. A 7¼" gauge Miniature Railway located within the Van Hage Garden Company, Great Amwell, Nr Ware, Hertfordshire

A 7¼” gauge miniature railway located at The Van Hage Garden Company, Great Amwell (nr. Ware) in Hertfordshire. Open to the general public every weekend, Saturdays 11-5 and Sundays 10.30-4.30 , as well as public holidays, and designated school holidays throughout the year. Our Charity Days for 2026 will be held on:

Saturday 28th November - Essex & Herts Air Ambulance
Sunday 6th December - Isabel Hospice
Sunday 20th December - Keech Hospice

On the above dates will be donating all of our passenger rides from the listed dates to charity. Please come along and support these important charities.

*CANCELLED - due to recent Government Advice regarding the current fire risk - trains will run as normal using our electric and diesel locomotives*

Visiting steam locomotives, built by Station Road Steam Ltd, will be pulling passenger trains on Sunday 16th August 2026.

We will be running from 10.30am until 4.30pm. £1.50 per ticket. Under 2's free!

🚂 Junior Day 🚂

Yesterday we held our Junior Day at the railway, for our Junior Members.

It was a great opportunity for our younger volunteers to get hands-on experience around the railway and learn new skills. From operating and maintaining the railway to understanding how everything works behind the scenes, it was a fun and educational day for everyone involved.

A huge thank you to all of our volunteers who gave up their time to help teach, support and encourage the next generation of our miniature railway.

🚂 School Holiday Service 🚂

Looking for something to do over the summer holidays? Why not visit East Herts Miniature Railway!

In addition to our usual weekend service, we'll also be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the school holidays, starting Tuesday 28th July, from 11:00am until 5:00pm.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Hearts for Herts for their incredibly generous donation of a defibrillator and bleed kit.

These vital pieces of life-saving equipment will help make our railway an even safer place for our volunteers, members and the visitors who enjoy the railway each year.

We are incredibly grateful for your support and commitment to improving community safety. Your generosity gives us the confidence that we are better prepared should an emergency ever arise.

A particular highlight on Saturday was seeing Peter N Brown, TCB Miller, and Katy hauling a train together for the very first time as part of our Gala services!
