Today is World Malaria Day, a moment to recognise both the progress made and the urgent work still needed to end one of the world’s deadliest diseases.
In 2024, malaria caused an estimated 610,000 deaths globally, a slight increase on 2023. At a time when global health funding is declining, our partnership with organisations like Transaid is more important than ever.
With Transaid, we are supporting community-based solutions that help ensure children can access life-saving malaria treatment, even in the most remote areas. This includes initiatives such as community-based re**al artesunate (C-RAS), a vital pre-referral treatment that can stabilise children with severe malaria and buy critical time to reach further care.
From community health volunteers identifying danger signs of severe malaria, to emergency transport systems like bicycle ambulances, these approaches are helping to save lives. However, without sustained investment, these gains are at risk.
This World Malaria Day, we stand with Transaid in calling for renewed commitment to ending malaria — because now we can, and now we must.
