A welcome, although infrequent, visitor to the boatyard. Which acts as a reminder that there are still a few days remaining to hunt for nurdles along our beaches and waterways and contribute to the Great Nurdle Hunt survey or find out more about how industrial pellets add to marine pollution at nurdlehunt org uk

Walking the Wey and Arun canal in preparation for two further canoe trips following the middle section of the London to Portsmouth barge route. We have previously paddled parts of the upper and lower reaches of the 80+ mile route.

The first is to see how far we can canoe south on the Wey Navigation helped by the fantastic restoration work carried out by the Wey and Arun Canal Trust.

The second is to demonstrate the right of navigation on the Arun by canoeing as far upstream as Pallingham quay, the point where the Arun connected to the Wey prior to the abandonment of navigation in 1893.

Last month a swarm of jellyfish blocking the cooling system caused a local power station to shut down. We haven't seen such a large swarm, but working on the water we've marvelled at compass, barrel and moon jellyfish over the last few years.

Canoeing through Guildford on the river Wye, we launched from the historic Dapdune wharf where the Wey barges where built. It's always amazing how different cities look like from the water. While the canoe is a workhorse, it definitely deserves a new coat of varnish.

Four Barient 28 winches off an American yawl which we have dismantled and are now rebuilding. Each one shows why an annual service is so necessary to keep your winches working well and safely.
1 A missing bottom needle bearing which has totally disintegrated due to high loads caused by a gearing failure.
2 A race has parted from the needle bearing due to a build up of grease.
3 Grease has been used on the pawls causing them to no longer engage with the primary gearing.
4 Worn pawl pocket on the pinion due to a broken spring.
Please contact us to discuss a maintenance schedule to ensure your winches perform at their best

We're loving the pineapple and it looks like the resident workshop rodent is loving them as well, although it appears to be a fussy eater. Well they are for sharing!

A week of working on MGB 81 to progress towards coding, so constantly checking against Lloyd's requirements. Being so close to the hull we see evidence of repairs which were most likely as a result of wartime damage ... and MGB 81 required a lot of repairing. We also don't forget that a member of the crew was killed in action close to Cherboug in June 1944 and that 81 represents more than the restoration of an historic craft.
