🚂 Council leader Glen Sanderson said mayoral funding would allow for the "next step of extending the line" adding he hoped the first planning application would be in by autumn 2027.

🎟️ Rail passengers can use their tickets on other train operators and buses. Anyone who no longer wants to travel on Wednesday can apply for a refund or use their tickets on Thursday.

A spokesperson for SGN said: "For safety reasons, it has been necessary to implement an exclusion zone around the location of the incident.

"We are sorry for the inconvenience caused while this essential emergency work is undertaken."

🚂 It is the 10th rail company now under the Great British Railways (GBR), the government's programme of public ownership, which it says will save money and improve services.

The aim is for GBR to operate all passenger services by the end of 2027.
