Trip Idea: A great weekend doesn't always mean a long drive.
The Ochil Hills don't look like much from the M80. Give them a weekend.
Witches Craig campsite sits right at their foot in Blairlogie — pitches facing straight up at the ridge. Walk Dumyat in the morning: an hour or so up, the same back down, 418 metres, and the whole central belt spread out below. The Forth, Stirling Castle, Edinburgh on a clear day.
In the evening, it's a 30-minute walk through Stirling University's grounds to Corrieri's in Causewayhead. They've been making the ice cream on-site since 1963. The pasta is good enough that the locals have made it a standing habit.
Dogs are welcome on the site and on the hill. Corrieri's is the one exception — leave them settled at the pitch.
Two nights. No single-track. Late May is the sweet spot — long days, no midges.
