Today, 29th July 2026, marks 35 years since Andrew Forsyth (Andy to most, and perhaps a few other four-letter words to some at times!) resurrected Doig’s of Glasgow into its present form. While Doig’s is a long-standing name in coach hire dating back to 1945, the original company hit financial troubles in 1991 and briefly ceased trading. Andy stepped in, reviving the historic name using just two vehicles from his previous company, Albany Transport.

From those humble beginnings, the company quickly built a reputation for quality and reliability. As demand grew, new coaches were purchased and the rebranded Doig’s of Glasgow moved to London Road. Shortly before the millennium, another major milestone was reached with a move to Summer Street in Bridgeton. During our time there, the fleet grew to 24 coaches, and we launched a premium chauffeur service featuring Mercedes and Bentley vehicles for weddings and corporate hire. Jay, our fearsome guard dog, joined the team and stayed with us until shortly before our next move.

In 2014, we purchased and renovated our current site on Melbourne Street, officially moving in late 2015. Spanning over two acres, this depot accommodates up to 70 coaches alongside an undercover garage area for an additional 10 vehicles.

Looking back, it is easy to point to high-profile highlights—like transporting Lionel Messi and the Barcelona FC squad for their 2012 Champions League match against Celtic, or driving both Ryder Cup teams in 2014, including legends like Rory McIlroy, Sergio García, and Phil Mickelson. While these prestigious events are incredible to work on, our most rewarding achievement is undoubtedly the loyalty of our customers who return to us year after year.

Over the last 35 years, while so much has evolved, the core of what we do remains the same. Today, we are transitioning to electric vehicles with high-capacity chargers newly installed at our depot. Yet, the most vital element of our success remains the person behind the wheel.

We want to take this opportunity to thank our incredible staff. Whether you have been with us since day one or joined us more recently, you are highly valued and keep Doig’s moving every day. We also extend our gratitude to former team members who played a part in our journey over the decades.

What is the plan for the next 35 years? Who knows where vehicle technology and AI will take us. However, as long as we have a pristine Doig’s driver behind the wheel of a modern, shiny coach, that will do for us. There is no need to overcomplicate a winning formula!

First of our 2026 arrivals, two fully electric Yutong coaches. Both seating up to 50 passengers these coaches are our next step towards our long term aim to offer a zero emission fleet.

We have also installed 4 high speed chargers at our depot in central Glasgow which allow the coaches to be charged from 20% to 80% in around 1 hour.

Range on these vehicles is around 200 miles and they benefit from features such as wheelchair lifts, 3 point seat belts, air conditioning and are fully PSVAIR compliant.

It is with great sadness we must report that last Wednesday, 24th Feb, long standing Doig`s driver Jim (James) Hill passed away. Only 54 years of age his passing is far too early and he will be sadly missed by all at Doig`s.

Jim started working with Doig`s in early 2010 and during his 10+ years with the company he grew into a lead driver position. Always available to help others, whether that be with directions or cleaning a coach, Jim could always be relied on to lend a hand. Incredibly hard working the nickname “half day Hill” from the office was only ever in jest and nobody could ever accuse Jim of not doing more than his fair share. These qualities ensured Jim was incredibly popular throughout the complete company and the heartfelt reaction from all has highlighted that Jim was possibly even more popular than he knew.

Away from work Jim was a family man leaving behind his beloved wife Fiona, son Gabhin and daughter Natasha. The undoubted apple of Jim`s eye however was his grand daughter Mila. Always eager to share pictures and tell stories of playing with her she lit up his life. Jim might also have been known to enjoy the odd whiskey away from work also however this was only ever an unconfirmed rumour……

Jim`s funeral will be held at 11am on Friday 12th March at South Lanarkshire Crematorium. Due to the current restriction on numbers only 20 people will be able to enter however a number of Jim`s colleagues, past and present, will be attending outside to show support for his family during this difficult time.
