Stay safe out there

⚠️ It's blawin a hoolie⚠️

Weather warnings are in place for today and tomorrow, The expected strong winds and adverse weather could pose as a serious safety risk to those around the coast.

The weather warnings are predicted to affect most of Scotland and Ireland with potentially 60-70+mph gusts expected in coastal locations combined with severe rain and snow events across the country.

The RNLI’s key water safety advice is:
✅ Take care if walking near cliffs, seafronts or piers – be aware of ice and frost, know your route and keep dogs on a lead, ideally keep away from these areas and pier ends.
✅ Check weather forecasts and tide times daily.
✅ Take a fully charged phone.
✅ Check your equipment is in good working order.
✅ Be aware of the conditions and your capabilities.
✅ In an emergency call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.

Dont risk your life for the sake of a photo opportunity, especially around rocky areas or piers and particularly towards high tide times when it can be all the more treacherous.

With cold weather upon us, please remember that areas near water can become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking close to the water’s edge, and keep these safety tips in mind:

- Keep yourself, loved ones, and pets at least 2 metres from the edge.
- Stay alert for others who may be walking too close to the water.

We would like to wish all seafarers a happy Merchant Navy Day. On the 3rd of September every year we celebrate all seafarers past and present who have served in what is often referred to as the “invisible service”. Who during conflicts still went to sea to make sure our goods were brought to us and to other nations in times of great uncertainty. Today at 5pm there will be a ceremony marking the day at the merchant navy memorial on the fisherman’s green next to the harbour masters office.
